BTW, CB, God rest Zappa's soul... truly miss that irreverent sob (said with much love and fond memories!) I may be conservative, but part of me is such a freakin libertarian!

Good one again, CG...Tipper this, Willy that...blah blah blah, and never acknowledge that the world is not black or white, but mostly gray. Actually, for your benefit, I'm a lifelong republican (from massachusetts) but these things are important and not so easily dismissed...the middle is where it's at. You can be sure you'll be hearing more from those left of you since the righties have messed up their chance to control the agenda by the shift hard right. Tom

seriously, the middle? The 'right' and the 'left' have become the middle. 'Middle' thinking has gotten us exactly where we are at today.
Have you read the Marxist Manifesto?
You have been indoctrinated well comrade .

Mike,
which would be a better description a constitutionalist or a libertarian?

What's to blame is debatable. What is not debatable is that the ice is melting quickly. Of course the earth goes in cycles, but I would have to think that gasses are helping in some way. Even if it is a fraction, and I do mean even a minute fraction.
So do you ignore the fact that there is a change, or do you do something, even if it is a little to help? One good thing that Gore is doing is he is asking for a cleaner earth. An earth that our great great grandchildren will inherit.
I personally don't like Gore. I think he has become a showman, and it is proven that he is a hypocrite. Just look at his carbon footprint, but I still think a cleaner earth is a good thing.

Imagine: Do WHAT??? Tell me WHAT.
JT: Not sure how to answer that.
TDay: A Republican from Mass? There is only one I am aware of, and his name is Freddie. And, so far, he is the only one I trust. Are you really VRM under a new name?

you mentioned how much of you is libertarian, I was wondering if a constitutionalist wouldn't be a better description.

Nope, he is not me. I'm an independent. I have issues loyalty, not party loyalty.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch.....
Forecasters Blow It, Again: '07 Hurricane season may rank as most 'inactive' in 30 years... http://www.coaps.fsu.edu/~maue/tropical/
If forecasters cannot predict an upcoming hurricane season then how can they possibly predict something 10 or 20 years down the road???? They've got it wrong for 2 years straight now.

Mr. Bomelia,
I can't tell you what to do to contribute. I have no idea what your lifestyle is like, but this I have taken notice of. You are an intelligent man, and well read. I am sure you know the answers already, and most likely practice them. Wasting energy, and resources is expensive, and only a dummy would do that!

Let's see. Wasting energy and resources.....hmmmmm
Sell the Cobra first...gas guzzler par none...polluter of the atmosphere
Light candles at night instead of incandescent bulbs...or maybe go back to whale oil...
We don't have an oil shortage problem...we have a lack of drilling, exploration and refining.

Conservation just makes it easier for someone else to waste. It's the free market system.

Roscoe,
You are pretty damned funny. Nobody is asking you to do that. Sometimes I have to use the motors in my cat, and it only gets 12mpg on a very good day. I do try to conserve in other areas of my life though.
Conserving energy is kind of like saving pennies. One penny won't make much difference, but after a while you got a buck, and then 2 bucks. Before you know you can buy yourself lunch by just saving pennies.
I am sure you don't sit in your garage with your foot to the floor just to use gas. Just because you have money in the bank isn't a reason to go spend it. Just because we have resources left doesn't mean we have to use it all up today.
J.T., You are right about smooth seas do not make skillful sailors, but that is when the 2 deisels kick into life

I do the simple things:
I turn off lights when I am out of the room. My thermostat is computer controlled, and my house is pretty well insulated.
I've recycled for years, but my town has just made it mandatory.

Maybe I'll wear a ribbon and put alot of bumper stickers on my car so it will look like I care more than anyone else.
Turning off lights, a good thermostat, etc is just common sense. Most of us have always done that.
It's all about control.....whether it be energy, smoking, tolerance (I hate that word) or political correctness......it's all about control.
And maybe no one is asking me to get rid of the Cobra but if this BS keeps up someone will force me to.

My wife does that passive aggressive thing too. Go ahead - it's your car - if you want to make it look like a Nascar reject you are welcome to do so.
I think you would be surprised at the number of people who don't do those common sense things. We might think that it is common sense, but there are plenty of people who have no idea that programmable thermostats even exist!
I agree, to an extent, that some of it is about control, but some of it is about personal control and common courtesy as well.
