2nd job/work from home ideas
OK, I have decided that I want to get moving on getting my Cobra. I do not want to wait the 2-3 years that I would have to wait if I keep everything as it is. A part time 2nd job would get me the funds quickly as all the income from that would go directly to the Cobra account. My problem is my primary job requires me to be able to work late, come in early, travel, as well as have my phone on me at all times so I can be called. This means, that whatever I do I have to do on my own terms, and that pretty much rules out any standard part time job. I have been brainstorming ideas, but nothing has really come up so far. What do some of you guys do to earn extra money on the side?

What I think you are asking is how did we, cobra owners, get our car, am I right?
I engineered the GM 368. For a year I worked around the clock on the 368. That was the biggest influx of cash.
However, in the future, I plan to ask Warren for the money...he's rich.

And he keeps getting all of those e-mails where he has millions more coming by helping these people get their money into the country. Get him to tell you his secret for that.

I meet up with an acquaintance once in a while at the local car shows, and he was telling me about how much money his wife was making on ebay. I personally do not like ebay, although I will sell and buy on occasion, very limited occasions. Anyway, he told me she goes to yard sales and buys baby clothes, cleans them and sells them on ebay. I guess it's a niche?, I do know if you have the right product, you can make some bucks!.
I buy 3" cutoff wheels from a guy on ebay, he has a fairy good quality at a low price, and I noticed his feedback was in the 20 thousands, he must be doing something right?.

Yea, kinda. I know that several people have come up with ideas to make the "extra" money on the side and am looking for feedback/ideas from anyone willing to share.

I have looked at the ebay thing, and I have been looking for things in pawn shops, but it seems to be that all the pawn shops around here don't have anything good in them. They may be already doing that. I guess I should look at yard sales as well.
Thanks for the input.

Pawn shops won't work out, they KNOW what stuff is worth and will generally GET a good price for it. I understand the delima you face with your job, mine was the same way. When I was younger man, trying to pay for the house, get ahead, etc. I often thought about a second job, but my primary (on call, extensive travel, work late or early) just never let it happen.
I bought and sold cars along the way, over the years, thats a brutal method, but it's about all I could figure out. I also invested in houses, boats (now THAT was really brutal) and other risky stuff along the way. Made a killing, lost my a$$ or broke even. In the end, I came out ahead (very nicely in fact) but the 'agony of defeat' and the worry about the investment game plan sure takes a toll on you. Investing is NOT for the faint of heart.
I bought some land, with partners, and then bought a house to move onto the land, so far so good. Then when the house was finished two of the hired carpenters refused to move out, claimed we owed them money. Freakin' nightmare getting them evicted, I darn near went to jail I was so mad over the deal (lost our a$$ on that one).
Now that Ferrari cigarette boat, ah there was a deal, broke even. But what a RIDE along the way, I don't regrett that deal for the sheer fun of it all.
Did best buying and selling Jaguars and foreclosure type housing.

Joe
If you are too busy with your primary job, then the second job is not feasible. Also, a second job is not going to pay enough to buy the Cobra you want.
Therefore, you will have to SAVE some of your existing paycheck to pay for the Cobra.
Figure it out. Assume that "someone" makes 50K in a year. And he/she wants to buy a 30K valued Cobra, and have it paid off within six years. Then he has to save only $5K a year. That is ONLY 10% of his/her salary.
Therefore, make up a list of things you normally buy and are willing to give up to get your Cobra. Then set up an automatic deduction from your paycheck that go directly into a separate account. You have to pay yourself first.
Give up a few things ... cigarettes, booze, restaurant dinners, new clothes every month, donuts in the morning .....
You will be amazed how fast you can come up with the $5K a year. And without a second job, it gives you more time to drive it (or work on it). Believe me, its much easier to save the money as compared to getting a second job. I had a second job in my late teens and early 20's. What a PITA working on weekends and nights when you are going to college nights AND have a full time job. Thats what I did for the first 2 years of a 3 year loan on my 70 Olds 442. It was worth it, but I swore off my second job as soon as my regular job paid enough to cover my expenses and last year of car loan.

My Story, You Ask ?
The kids found DeVaca's gold buried in the back corner of our yard at the Mesquite house. The history books left out the little known fact that DeVaca did a tour in North Texas. I spent most of the fortune on eternal cryogenic storage, backup generators, canned food, and a little project at my friends house across the lake, (see details at Rockwall Man Tries To Build Nuclear Reactor In Home - News Story - KXAS | Dallas).
I admittedly went a little crazy on the spending, and now I'm saving all over again to get my engine.

Seriously Joe, Warren is right. Last thing you want is a wife caring for your son and you never home, resenting your absence, then resenting your dream, then resenting your car, then wanting wood floors, a new kitchen, a new house, pro-bono professional courties from your plastic surgeon buddies (sure, it starts out small with some dermabrasion or botox). Then look where you end up, paying legal fees to get out from under EPA and FBI charges for a non-working nuclear reactor.
If I knew then, what I know now, I never would have bought the kids those damn sand box shovels.

Thanks guys. I had pretty much figured out that a 2nd job was not going to work. I want to find something I can do from home, but I guess I need to look again at what I am spending and save what I can
And John, next time keep the reactor on YOUR side of the lake.

Joe,
Just what kind of Cobra would you prefer? A roadster, Daytona Coupe, or Gt-40. Also do you have any specific brand in mind at this time?

It kinda scares me but Warren and I agree very often when it comes to fiances.
I have to add a couple of things though....DO NOT FIANCE TOYS.When it comes to toys,if you can't pay cash you can't afford it.
Heck,I don't fiance anything.If I can't pay cash,I don't buy it.I'm 100% debt free.
Joe,You are only 35.From where I'm at,you're just a pup.Slow down.Saving up like Warren said, you can have a fully paid for Cobra when you are 40 or real close ! Fully paid for cars ride, run and feel nicer.
40 is a long way from old !!!
I'm 59 and I am waiting for warm weather to get on my Road King Classic Harley and tour Texas and then move towards seeing a lot of Arkansas,then......
I was 53 when I got my Cobra. You are futher ahead than you might think.

I'm not positive but I heard that when Ron was 35 history hadn't even been invented yet.

Fred,
Frightening as it is I agree with both you and Warren about finances. I have never bought anything on payment since I bought a car in 1965 and paid it off in one year just to establish a credit line. I paid cash for everything I have, and I paid cash when I got my Cobra. Of course I saved a lot of money by not having to buy Frog and Turtle feed.
As for the age thing, I was not in my teens when I got my Cobra. As for history, they are having to change so many things they taught in previous years that I think we should have chiseled more things into stone. This trying to keep up with all of you kids is hard to do. You will be sorry when I go back to my home planet.

Joe,
You will get it and I hope soon. I really miss mine, but that is just something I had to do as I had medical bills to pay. Just don't get discouraged.

That would work great except for the fact that I am an overweight, balding mid 30s guy who is married. Not a very big line of women looking to pay a guy fitting that description to spend time with them.
That was my first idea though.

John, why are you a guy in his early 40s living at home with mom and dad?
Are you paying for a Cobra?

You don't have to actually escort them. Just dress in something slinky, and let them call you. They will never know you are overweight, balding, married, and you might learn to like wearing something slinky. A big plus for the wife....LOLOLOLOL
