two bad apples ruin the bushel!!!
I have been ignoring the lounge like a good girl for a couple of months now.

I obviously have much more fun with my cars than sitting here watching a bunch of losers post ridiculous and pathetic posts behind the anonimity of their computers. They must be out on parole or something.

ok... checking back out!!

It really is pathetic that Jamo, or anyone for that matter has to moderate the damn Lounge. It seems that some just drop in here every year or so and stir up trouble and piss a lot of people off and then are gone for another year.

I have a few now listed on the ignore list and it sure seems to make it better. I now do not have to look at two peoples post who have nothing better to do than fight about EVERYTHING because one thinks he is "perfect" and the other one "knows it" (wrongly of course)

Jamo is right, we need to police ourselves here. It is BS plain and simple. If a few can't cut out the BS lets ask as a group they BOTH be removed from the forum perminatly. It has been done in circumbstances like this before and it may be time to do it again.

Come on, we are adults and it is about damn time we started acting like it. It you don't have anything nice to say get yourself something else to do.

Steve,

The idea of policing ourselves is good except for one thing. As soon as you ask one of the people to kind of tone it down you get a big fight and all kinds of name calling telling you that you are a Phuckng idiot and not a moderator and they will do what they want. I have had so many really nasty direct e-mails, not through the club that I just put them all on my ignore list. I used to PM them and ask them to kind of cool it down and it just made things worse. I think that since the club has grown so much they could use another moderator. If I remember correctly Turk was one before he left. This is in no way a knock on Ron and Jamo as they do a great job, but it has to get to them and a person to replace Turk could maybe take some of the load off. Just my humble thought.

Ron

Jamo and I have no problem at all with the workload.
It doesn't take much time at all to keep things running...when everyone co-operates.

...and it won't take much time to correct the current turbulence, either.

Thanks for your concern, though.

I don't personally care what happens with the Lounge, as I come here for Cobras, not political discussions or internet video clips.

BUT... many sites that I am on, have two "lounge" type forums... one for normal activity, and the other for heated debates, topics, etc, etc. Usually called an "anything goes" forum, with warnings to posters of heated topics and off color language and such.

While the idea of this kind of forum may be out of the realm of what kind of conduct we want here, it is actually very effective in keeping the rest of the site clean. People who want to post there do, and those who don't want to be involved, stay out.

Sal,

I belong to a site that has that but it seems to continually spill over and all they have is two big messes. I spend a lot of time in the lounge for two reasons. I no longer have a car and I don't have enough mechanical knowledge to really be of much help to most people, especially those running fuel injection and such. But I do answer as many questions in the other forums as I can. I believe the Ignore Button is the best way to calm this down and if I recall correctly Jamo pointed out to one of our newer members that he should take note of how the folks on that thread were ignoring him. It seems to have helped some in that particular case. We can and should police ourselves as Ron and Jamo have enough to do. But as I stated above, I have tried to talk to a few people off line and have really been threatened with physical violence by one of them.

Ron

In case you haven't noticed you can put yourself on your own ignore list.

Sometimes I have to do that.

oops,no you can not.

"Sorry, no matter how much you try, you can not ignore yourself. "

Ron61, concerning physcial threats, you mean something like this?

Quote:
What about you PMing your address and I'll send someone over to discuss this with you?
At what point are such threats supposed to be taken seriously, or not? Threats such as this have been repeated to me personally and to others by the same member. It aint funny, it aint name calling, it aint a 'disagreement'. I'm VERY tired of it.

Those kind of threats are from people you will never see, and that makes those people very secure......

Personally I believe we need a poll.

Very simple, do the two trouble makers in question get run outta town on a rail or not.

The lounge is used as it is intended. If those that do not like it or think CC doesn't need then why are you here (in the lounge)? CC is a big place, go play in another part of the sand box, but don't suggest that those of us that use the lounge every day be deprived of it.

Ron, make it clear the tolerances can be dealt with quickly as and if needed. Let's leave it at that and go on.

As for the treats that is BS, someone makes a threat to me I am going to take it seriously, period. I have been a victim once before for not doing so, I assure you I will not make the same mistake again. Fortunately I have not had any aggression directly on CC. Sure Meat and I tossed around a bit but I just ignored him and I am happy for it. I don't need that kind of crap and neither does he.

Lets just do as Jamo stated, Police ourselves and go on if this BS continues put up a poll and throw out the trouble makers. We have done it before!

The mistaken belief that there are only 'two trouble makers' is probably what leads to threads like this.

When you see a post that you don't like and you respond to it - viola! - you're now the troublemaker.

If you don't like a post, then don't respond to it. Ignore the member. Learn how to use the scroll button. It's not rocket science.

Your pal,
Meat.

How you guys have managed to turn this "Do I need to close the lounge" thread (which was started over several arguement) into another arguement is beyond me!

plain and simple.. if you can't get along with someone, you aren't required to post in their threads or reply to their posts. It's not that hard guys! It is the DEFINITION of "policing yourself!"

Hey, Josh. this is just a discussion.
I think I am more concerned when I'm having a normal post in a thread, and UNSOLICITED comments are then made. I have THEN chosen to quit responding in threads where the undesirable post was made, but it's hard to 'self-police' when the post is made AFTER your own post.
I haven't read any of the posts in questionable threads. I just quit reading any thread that SOUNDS like it might be confrontational, argumentative. So yes... in that regard, don't read the thread, it's easy.
but.... when people start slamming after I/someone posts, that can be a problem.

I don't care any more; i'm staying out of 'those' threads. I'm only posting in this one to explain WHY i don't post in 'here' much anymore, and I'll be jumping back out of it now!!
I have now added two more to my ignore list! yea!
the problem though, is if you aren't 'logged in' then their posts still show up. darn.

Kristen
ps.
I THEN go to my 'email notification' and remove my subscription to the thread. There are actually several ways in which a person can 'ignore' undesirables.
I'm only subscribed to about 3 threads at any given time. Well maybe 5-6 if the Texas forum is popping!!!
1. ignore list
2. unsubscribe
3. don't open irritating threads
4. stay away from threads that have confrontational personalities in the 'new post' line
5. Come play in the Texas forum!!

edit to add:
I have gone and read a couple of threads since Jamo posted the question....
all so unnecessary. Can't we all just get along???

I didn't start this thread to ask for suggestions...don't want any, and frankly some of you making the suggestions don't have a clue. As Ron said, we do just fine. The intent of the thread was a warning.

Now, Ron and I have our fingers cocked and loaded on the button. This thread is closed given that everyone who has posted on it can not now argue they weren't warned.

No warnings, no discussion...nothing. Say something either Ron or I don't like, and you'll be taking a rest. Don't care if you're a long timer, normally a good guy or whatever.

Don't think it's fair? Tough...we do.

Thanks for your expected cooperation.

Please...somebody double damn dare us.
