Computer Help
Hello All, I just moved so I switched services for my computer, tv and phones.
I went with ATT DSL and now I am having some issues with it, there are some websites that I can't get on, with Gasholes being one of them.
When I double click it acts like it is going to go to the site then just sits there and finally times out. I can only get there bottom tier which is 1.5 MPBS.
Thanks in advance for any ideas and help.

Gordon,
I have had AT&T DSL ever since it became available and I have no problems with anything. I just came from the Gashole site. Are you using IE or did you load and use their software and browser? I didn't load their software or use their browser as when it first became available here there were some people that had problems when they used the AT&T software. By bottom tier, are you referring to the download rated speed? And are you using XP or Vista?
Edit: Also what url are you using as your home page?

Hi Ron, I am still using internet explorer, I also have XP and the home page is att/yahoo, never had any trouble with Roadrunner, but this DSL will not load the gasholes page. bottom tier is express at 1.5 MBPS, I don't know if it changed my browser settings or what, but I am just about ready to go back to roadrunner. I I got the package of Dish Network, phones and DSL.

Gordon,
I upgraded about a year ago to the top tier of 6 MBPS but never had any problems at all with the lower speeds when I had them. I was just over on the Gashole site reading about Pats birthday and looking at the great picture on the last page of the thread.
Open your IE and see what you have for the home page URL. I have http://sbc.yahoo.com. Once I get to the home page which I have set up with mostly news modules and such, I have all the sites in my favorites list and all I have to do is clink on whichever one I want to go to once and it takes me there. Also if you think your home page may be messed up, try changing it in IE to any site that you go to.
I am guessing that you probably have IE 6. And have you tried cleaning all temp. Internet files. cookies, history, and emptying the Prefetch folder? I have seen some problems caused by the prefetch file getting garbaged and just deleted them all. That will slow you down just a tad, but it will put back the files as you go to any sites or use any programs, and everything will be back to normal. You might also try going to the advanced page of the IE pages when you open it and set everything to default.

Gordon, Uncltodd here, Bakersfield West High Class of '69!
We finally became DSL-capable here in my little town in rural Okrahoma about three years ago, ATT recently pooled all our Dish, DSL and phone service, probably about the same as you have.
I use IE6 and XP Pro, both 2-3 years out of date, but still 'way ahead of my skills and ability.
I have not tried the Gashole site since Roscoe ran me off several years ago, might try it again just out of curiosity.
You can download at 1.5MBPS???
On a GOOD day I can run from 65KBPS to 80KBPS!
Ron is most knowledgeable and thorough. I just fly 'em, I don't fix 'em.
Is it possible that your DSL is hammering the Gashole server for a faster connection that it can't provide?

UT,
My speed is quite a bit higher than Gordon's and I have no problem with any sites. CW has the highest speed and Gordon should talk to him or Jamo as they can explain what they want to say much better than I can. I have never been able to type or explain anything that comes out the way I want it to. I have some ideas but really don't know how to express them so Gordon would understand them. So at this point Gordon, I would suggest that you confer with CW or Jamo. I see that CW asked a question above, so you should talk to him as he will certainly know how to guide you through any problem.
One other thing, have you ran any speed tests to see just how well your set up is working? Now over to CW and Jamo for the real answer to your problem. I will be reading this thread with interest.

Gotta wonder just what it is you're talking about...then again, it seems probable that you don't know.
Roscoe has rarely been to our site (though he is most welcome) and I doubt very much he would run you or anyone else off. Be that as it may...there really is no need for you to try it out again.
