" A new Formula One team is under wraps in America and set to be launched officially later this month, it is reported on Wednesday.
The team, whose logo can be previewed at 'usf1.com', is fronted by F1 stalwart and broadcaster Peter Windsor, and American Ken Anderson, of IndyCar and NASCAR fame but also former Ligier Technical Director.
Briton Windsor, 56, has worked for Williams and Ferrari, but is best known today as a television pundit and writer.
The German website motorsport-total.com claims USF1 intends to make its Grand Prix debut in 2010, and already has the blessing of F1 Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone.
The team will have the slogan 'Made In America' and be headquartered in the heart of NASCAR-country in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Reportedly, an agreement to use the new Windshear wind tunnel in North Carolina "

Maybe they'll bring back F1 to Watkins Glen----early October in upstate N'yawk was always a feature of my college-era Fall seasons! (After I quit foo'baw, that is). It's still one of the most beautiful venues for auto racing.
One vote for Danica Patrick, too!

Good luck getting Bernie to return the F1 circus to North America. As you know, he pulled the plug on the Canadian Grand Prix several months ago even though the Montreal race was one of the most popular with the F1 teams. The $25 or $30 million profit wasn't enough for him as he could get some country in the middle east to cough up $100 million. Of course there is virtually no one in the stands but the greedy SOB doesn't care about that. 
France also lost their race and I have heard rumors that Auatralia and China are both thinking about pulling out once their contracts are up. Honda has put their F1 team for sale but there are no buyers. I think that the glory years of F1 may be gone unless there is a major change in the attitude of those running the show.
I also think that it would be great if USF1 gave Danica a chance. She has paid her dues in Europe, she has proven that she can drive open wheel race cars, and she is a marketer's dream. Of course the pressure of F1 is way beyond anything else at any other level of motor racing.

I think the F1 series is in trouble now as the economy has dropped like a rock and those millions he was expecting may not materialize. And with the Middle East so unsettled right now, he may have a problem getting many teams that will go there. Bernie must adore Bill France of NASCAR as he is acting just like him.

I couldn't get the US team site to load but I read the Autoweek article. $62 million budget. Maybe in a new, 'scaled down' F1, but in today's F1 $62 mil is a popcorn fart in a hurricane. Last I remember it took $400 mil to field a 'competitive' team.

That amount would barely cover their travel expenses if it did at all. Just think what it costs to haul those cars and their teams from one country to another.

A while back I read that the Detroit GP promoter GAVE up the race because it was too expensive. Besides all the expense of putting on the race, finding sponsors and putting together prize monies. HE had to pay EACH driver 'appearance money, PLUS pay for the cars to be shipped to the race, AND pick up the FIRST CLASS airfare for the ENTIRE teams, And the hotel SUITES and DINING.
Could be a figure that would get a Congressman's attention. well, at least a raised eyebrow then.

And big money does not guarantee success in F1. Ferrari is known to be a big spender but Toyota had either the biggest or the second biggest F1 budget last year and they won diddly. It takes time, a good car, talented drivers, a smart dedicated team, and some luck as well as lots of $$$, to be successful in F1.
