Very true...
During the first Gulf War we fought Iraqi forces trained by the Soviets using Soviet equipment and we dominated them. In the battle of "73 Easting" 8 American M1 tanks took on over 30 Republican Guard T-72's in defensive positions. The Americans should have lost, but their ability to hit the Soviet tanks on the move at a much longer range proved to be the difference. The M1's destroyed all the T-72's with no American loses.
I also saw many BMP's that we had hit with everything from .50 cal to 25mm rounds, and our rounds cut through them like swiss cheese. We had some M1's take direct hits from T-72's and althought the tanks were severly damaged, the crews survived.
The battles fought in the air were also dominated by us. The Iraqi's were flying very good fighters like the Soviet Mig 29, French Mirage 1 etc... using soviet tactics, and they were shot down everytime they decided to fight. The Soviet stuff was no where near as capable as our stuff. I would not want to have to fight a war with the Chinese or the Russians, but our military is far superior than either of them. The nuclear option, like mentioned above, is what would worry me.
