that's what is so funny about the whole thing. i thought i would tell it in a dramatisized form and i guess let anyone interpret it how they felt. people, situations, and reactions are interesting.
the other guy had a nice car, he wasn't interested in mine, i wasn't really interested in the 57, we both left it at that. there was no animosity.
i'll work on it, til next time.

I think I get it now, I was thinking that you did have an interest in his car.
Most of the time, guys/gals with classic cars tend to exchange 'something' with owners having 'something' in common. Actually, I find classic car owners the salt of the earth, really good people with a big heart.
The interesting thing is - even 'real' isn't actually real 100%.

I think what would have been a really good story is :That
you pull away looking in the rear view mirror and run off the
curb and high center.......then the "old guy" drives past you
and flips you the bird and shows his AAA card .Now that would
have been a good story !

Better might have been to introduce a thumping ricer that both the Cobra and the Chevy rag out as all three leave the station.
Just a thought.

Vector1,
I got it (your initial post) and took it the way you intended. Perhaps its because I occasionally engage in creative writing too. I have just one question. Is the lack of capital letters a stylistic choice or is your shift key broken? .... Keep 'em comming.

It's a car-guys thing!
Goes back to that "Whose is bigger" thing.
Each is afraid to remark on the other guy's car for fear that the other guy will put his down.
I always compliment other cars just to put the other guy at ease. Then the conversation usually flows from there. Unless he's a A-hole. Then it ends quickly.
Guys are still guys, even with their cars!

I called into the supermarket today. I was standing there at the checkout with my loaf of toast cut bread and there was this old lady at the next checkout over with a loaf of regular sandwich cut bread. I looked over and figured she likes bread. I thought that she would look over and notice that I liked bread too but she didn't.
So there were stood, not saying a word.
The girl behind the checkout asked If I had a fuel discount card but I forgot to bring it with me. Oh, she says, and mumbles something else whilst ringing up my groceries.
I glance over at the old lady with the sandwich cut bread, She's still there but not making any conversation. oh well, I've run into these kind before. just leave em alone and they don't pose any problems, it's daylight at least.
I'm finished running my groceries through, I pay and and bag everything up. Glance over once more to see if the old lady want to compare notes on bread, but no chance. just as well.
I load all my stuff into the back of the car and go take the trolley back. I almost forget to take the $2 coin out of the slot when I return the trolley and latch it.
I jump in my car and off I go, looking back at little old lady with the bread, she's loading her stuff into her car and not even looking up.

Did anyone ever tell you that you have a warped sense of humor. Besides Bernie I mean.

Not picking, just thought they were funny, my local grocery folks would give me the strange eye if I ask for toast cut or sandwich cut........

I love cool cars. If mine is cool, that's OK too. I've never met anyone that won't chat, but some are reserved and won't take the first step!
"Cool car" is a good opening remark.

As far as conversations go, I am normally the one to walk up and complement/ask questions. I have usually found most guys don't mind talking about there cars/showing off a little. I have a few come up to me from time to time and I have to just tell them it sounds better than it is. (Mostly stock Mustang) Still like the "Looks Good" complements and always enjoy talking to any car guy. Even a few of the ricers know what they are doing/talking about. Even if their taste in cars suck, they are still car guys.
