I went to the movies and saw...
Star Trek.
Not a bad movie - good special effects, some great casting (Sulu could have been better), and an OK storyline. And the women also wore the skimpy dresses and interesting hairdos similar to the original series.
I work in high tech so I am enough of a geek to be more than passingly familiar with the characters, but I am not enough of a geek to cry (no lie - this actually happened!) "'I can't believe that they made it an alternate universe - why would they do that!?! - they've ruined my life!!". This guy sitting in the row behind me was so upset...I really wanted to laugh at him, but I didn't because I will probably end up working for him in 5 years. 
And then when we were leaving there were two guys going in and one of them says to the other "Well, you are my arch-nemesis". I don't know what the rest of the conversation was about. Probably some online Dungeons and Dragons game.
Worth the 10 bucks if you like sci-fi.

Computerworks has told me it's worthy...I've pulled my Star Fleet Manual just to make sure they get things correct.

Except that they built the Enterprise on the ground rather than the orbital shipyards.

Nope - all 'starships' (including Constitution class and later) were built in orbit. The Zefrem Cochran ships were built on the ground, but they were not 'starships'.
I went in to engineering partially because of Scotty...

Well now hold on...Kirk took over from Pike...oh ****...found this. I stand corrected...San Francisco Yards orbiting Earth.
Launched in 2245, the original and illustrious starship U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 was built in the San Francisco Yards orbiting Earth. The Constitution-class starship was previously captained by Robert April and Christopher Pike, before coming under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.

OK, here's one for you.
Long time ago I had a complete set of blueprints of the Enterprise. They came in a pouch and it was a complete deck-by-deck diagram of the ships construction. It also had blueprints of the Phaser, Tricorder, and Communicator. The communicator blueprint also had a schematic (of an AM receiver).
I gave this to my best friend (with some other Trek stuff) before leaving for the Navy (nothing like Star Fleet I'm afraid, except for the expendable personnel). We think his mom tossed all the stuff at some point.
I have yet to ever see this evidently rare item since. (probably worth several million federation credits by now) No trekkie I've ever talked to has even heard of it. Maybe someone here remembers it, seems like I bought it at a bookstore back in the early 70's or late 60's.

Pretty much what I'm looking at in TO:01:05:82 through 01:07:20 of the Star Fleet Manual, albeit on letter-sized pages, for the Class 1 Starships...also contains blueprints for phasers, tricorder and communicators as well as some of McCoy's toys.
The Ear Receiver on 03:02:02 looks amazing like a bluetooth earpiece from Motorola or Plantronics...
Also has full instructions for tridimensional chess.

I also had a book titled "inside Star Trek". It had lots of interviews with the cast members as well as Roddenberry. It had pictures of the actual stage props internal construction, backstage photos and the like.
Still remember Shatners story of how he ate fruit salad almost everyday because that's all he could afford at the commissary. Also Niemoy's painfull ear prosthesis that he dreaded having to get put on.
Lots of other stuff I've completely forgotten by now.
Just remembered one thing, some of Mcoys surgical insturments were salt shakers that were from props considered for the episode with the salt-craving alien. They finally decided the future offered nothing new for a salt shaker and just used a plain 'ol glass one so the viewer could plainly see it was salt.
God help me I have no idea why I remember that...

I had something similar - ship and weapons blueprints, and I think I had a deck by deck plan for the Kilngon cruiser, along with a Starfleet cadet guide or some such thing. I gave my sister a tribble for her birthday one year. I think all that stuff is still ay my mums house - probably stuffed in a box in the attic.
