I have run a pink (you know, a red that isn't all that red yet) light thinking that I was stretching it a little bit only to look in the mirror and watch 2, 3, 4, or more cars follow me through."

That is the norm here in Hawaii - you go through a pink, look around for any
cops, but then see several following you through - no worries. They delay
the other side's greens for a couple of seconds just to keep them safe.
