Default Cooler with a Clear Cover

I was at a weekend barbecue and had a great idea....Why don't they make coolers with a clear cover so you can see what's inside?

The top has to be insulated as well as the walls for a cooler to keep the ice from melting. And if you did have a clear insulation you would still need to make sure the sun couldn't hit the top of it. The way I carry mine, the sun is on it half the time it seems.

That's why the good beers come in dark green bottles! Keeps these pesky UV rays from ruining a good brew. Other than the direct sunlight thing, I have seen coolers with double wall, vacuum insulated transparent lids. They work well enough, as cold air tends to sink and you don't lose too much out the top - but you gotta keep them in the shade. Not good for boats and beaches. Of course you can always cover with a towel or get a fat person to sit on the cover to block the sun, but that defeats the whole purpose of transparency anyway. Plus, when chubby passes out or falls asleep, then you're really screwed.

The last time I brainstorm an idea around here. So Negative. I bet Billy Mays could sell it!

Alright it might have a few flaws...

How about double insulated glass or unbreakable lexan for those wild parties. The glass can have a light tinting to keep the rays out.

If the beer gets skunky in your cooler from UV rays, you are drinking too SLOW!

See problem solved. Infomercial here I come.

I think you got it nailed now, Jams! Howz that for R&D? All you need now is a strong "whoopie" buzzer or a mild electric shocker built into the lid to keep fatty from sitting on it and passing out after drinking the stale beer!

Buzz,

If the fat person drinks enough of the stale beer, they will be running to the bathroom so much that the sun will still get in and just make the beer more stale.

How about a small umbrella with a mounting place in the lid for the handle? Darn Jams, you are getting as lazy as I am if you don't want to lift the lid to see if there is anything in there that you want.

Could you imagine if the entire frozen food section at the supermarket had white doors that you could not see through. It would take you forever to find Tater Tots.

Jams,

The frozen food sections are Super Markets aren't riding around in vehicles in the heat and sun. Why don't you build yourself a transparent lid for a cooler and let us know how it works and what you used for insulation and so forth. The idea is good, I am just not sure of the practicality of it.

Why do you want to be able to see inside the cooler?

You are at a big party and their are 5 coolers setup...why waste time looking for the one with beer. This way you can distinguish between the beer coolers and the ones with juice boxes and girly wine coolers. That's why.

I would bet a 2 inch thick piece of lexan would still have quite a bit of insulation. Quite a bit of weight too, as well!

Wait until Star Trek's Scotty invents transparent aluminum!!! lol !!!

AND, you wouldnt have to worry about dents in your transparent aluminum Cobra, either!

Hey - I just got another idea for Jams! How about transparent bathroom doors so you can discretely see if the crapper is occupied without rudely knocking and disturbing the individual?

Or, even better - use sound insulated one-way glass so that the person inside enjoys a tranquil sense of privacy and is never distracted by the onlookers pointing and laughing outside...
