the aclu has always been a thorn in america's side. was originally started by the communist party to undermine america. (this is not a political bash but actual history)
politicians and ethnic groups have been used by, and use, the aclu to further their causes.
anything spewed by the aclu would not surprise me in the least.

an article about the aclu's founding

Sounds subversive -- count me in! (member of the ACLU and NRA)

i don't think the aclu and the nra in the same sentence works, unless you would be comparing opposites

I'm a big supporter of both the first and second amendments. Just call me a moderately conservative liberal.

Really liked the fourth too, before it was gutted by the so-called "law and order" crowd.

I fully support the U.S. Constitution. I just don't believe that someone in our country illegally should be granted those same rights.... If they want those rights, they should gain them RIGHTFULLY, not ILLEGALLY!

Really, a supporter? How do you tell, on the street, a citizen from an illegal alien? And here I was thinking the Constitution was simply a basic assertion of human rights and our relationship to society and its means of governance. Why not just set up "citizenship checkpoints" at state borders (why not county borders?) and give everyone a quick frisk? Just think of all the benefits!

Hmmm, rights for some and none for others -- sounds like a firm basis for exploitation. Which may be why corporations knowingly hire illegal aliens; low wages, no benefits and no fuss from their threat labor (read that as no organizing). And lower wages for citizens too! It's a win-win!

Now, just how should "they" go about gaining "our" rights, "rightfully"?

Are you being serious? Because if you are.... you are far more liberal than you think!!! i suppose you believe that illegals should be granted social security, free healthcare, food stamps, housing, etc etc etc... WOW!!!

My grandfather was an illegal alien from Ireland. He became a legal US citizen by joining the Army in WWI.

Sounds like an option to me. Join the military or go back to where you came from.

Hmm,

I looked at the link and see that Rev. Al Sharpton is looking to stir up trouble, but I don't recall seeing the ACLU mentioned anywhere.

I thnk he meant the original link. I guess I just always associate sharpton to teh ACLU... especially when he says things like "people of a certain skin color are treated different than other people."

Um, the link in the first post in this thread. You know the one with ACLU in subject line. I was trying to see the connection to the ACLU when the thread was started.

The ACLU, gay marriage, birth control, communism, gun rights, feminists and various other things seemed to be added on afterwards.

Based on the original posting in this thread, shouldn't the subject have been "Reverend Al Sharpton starting trouble in Maricopia"?

Is Sharpton employed by the ACLU?

No, they have every right to their opinion -- even if I consider it ignorant and ill-informed.

What I am concerned about, given the rapidly deteriorating economic situation, is vilifying and demonizing any group of people (on any basis) and denying them equal protection under the law. This is a seriously slippery slope -- one that Germany slid down in the 1920-30s.

If you want freedom, you'd better be prepared to defend that of the most helpless and repugnant among us.

The simple fact is that these illegal aliens, these people, live here. That there are corporations who benefit ($$) from their being here illegally. That the US government has turned a blind eye to illegal immigration for a very long time because of these corporations' political contributions.

Just because they turn a blind eye doesn't make it right. You are correct that they will continue doing that if there is money to be made but there is a reason it is called "ILLEGAL" immigrant. If people enter illegally, they should be given the chance to become a citizen or be escorted out. If people dont agree with that , then get our lawmakers to make them legal. What good is having a law if they dont enforce it. Illegals either get paid under the table in cash or they fake SSN to get a regualar check. Either way our tax dollars go to help subsidize the govt and the corporations.

I do agree that if people really want to do something about it then we need to fortify our borders and heavily tax and punish the corporations that still employ them. Given the choice of losing thier business or following the law they wont have a choice. While I agree that we are all immigrants here except for the american indians, most of our ancestors came over and immigrated LEGALLY, not sneaking across the border at 2 am hoping they dont get caught!
