LATEST! Cash 4 Clunkers to END 8/24/09. Monday! $ will be gone by then.
Used, but not paid. But I won't blame that on an obummer Government. That is just how SNAFU Government programs have always been. And Health Care will be the same.

I never heard that 10 day thing either, sounds very suspicious.
Kind of looks like the dealers some how got the idea of the "10 day" thing. I would assume it was a bad rumor and they jumped on it or the administration gave them the idea. That "10 day" thing seems to be on the internet in several of locations all stemming from dealers.
example:
Ziepke is happy with the program, even if getting his money from the government has been slower than the 10 days originally expected. "We're still waiting for our first check, but we have faith." So far, it's about $100,000 worth of faith, but Ziepke still treats "Cash for Clunkers" deals like any other.

Cost/benefit analysis? Thats a tough one, it's easy to say it's a flawed program, to many delays, blah blah. Cost to much for what it did for the country? I don't know, without access to enough "data points" on the auto manufacturers, job's picture, economy in general I don't think any of us are in a position to say with some authority, yeah or neah on the subject. Speculation runs rampant, "rumor has it" abounds, hard facts will be like nailing jello to a wall. We may never know the end results, perhaps it's just another brick in the wall of rebuilding the economic fundamentals?
One thing is clear, Obama inherited this mess, who caused it is a long and winding road of endless finger pointing. To do nothing only exaperates the problem, C4C appears to be a step in the right direction.

The problem that Obama inherited, and Bush inherited and Clinton inherited and Bush inherited, and Reagan inherited, on past Roosevelt, is out of control spending. And obummer is CERTAINLY not "doing nothing," he IS exacerbating the problem WORSE than any predecessor EVER imagined.

I watched a special the other day where they were talking to dealers and they outlined the program. The program states that dealers will receive payment within 10 days. The dealers on the show were not happy with the program. BTW, Obama has added to the mess quite a bit IMO.

Over spending by the Guv is not the fundamental cause of the current WORLD WIDE economic crisis. The US is not the only country whose has determined at least one way to stabilize the economy is "bail out's" and "increased spending" to avoid and even worse condition. Many countries recognize that you just can't let some of your core business' fail. Which ones to save? How much to spend? Where to spend it? Not easy choices to make. But that subject might best be addressed in an entirely new thread independant of Cash for Clunkers.

I dont know why this program did NOT include the cars from 1974 to 1988. Those mid-70's cars were probably the WORST running, poorest-gas mileage cars out there ever. AND, you only have to get a car with 5 to 10 MPG better than what you "clunked" in with? I would think that if they were serious about mileage, the only cars available to buy under the 'clunker' law would be cars with at least 30 MPG.

If I recall correctly, the C4C program assured dealers they would be paid in 30 days.
