How Do You Keep Your Nuts Shiney ?
When wrenching on your Cobra, how do you keep the various fasteners in good condition? Are there special tools that will not mar the finish or are there some tricks you use with standard tools?
I'd really like to keep my nuts shiney and in good shape even after lots of use.
I did a search but didn't really find anything.

If they aren't real tight I have used a soft thin cloth around them. But it won't work long and for wheels and such, I just buy new ones if they start to look bad. As for the rest, intake and etc., it is going to be hard if yo do any work on them to keep them from showing. Also heat will change them too.

buff your nuts to keep them shiny.......i use scotch brite to polish them, but you do reach a point when replacing them is all you can do.
i heard a rumor that 20 year old female saliva will polish nuts with little effort.

I use stainless fasteners wherever possible, they seem to resist showing tool wear. Hurricane used yellow chromate plated bolts throughout and I have since replaced most of the non-grade 8 yellow bolts and nuts with stainless. If you have a pneumatic die grinder and some Scotchbrite Roloc surface prep discs, you can buff them up if you like that polished look.

It's a good question (on so many levels). 
I spray WD-40 on some select nuts, bolt heads and then wipe the residue off. Seem's to help, but wrenching on them is painful and often leaves a mark, no way around that. I've replaced a number of mine as age catches up with them. |

There is another thing that I did when I used to put my cars in shows. I bought some packets of blue caps that have a small plastic insert that will latch them onto the bolt heads. You can get them in about any color around here to match whatever you are using as hose ends. They look great, but be sure to take them off before you drive the car far as they will shake loose and you will lose them. They are strictly a look type item.

All kidding aside - didn't Summit sell a set of sockets at one time with "no-mar" nylon inner linings for just that purpose?

Sounds like some good (?) ideas here and I think some experimenting with different technics are in order.
I have a couple of nuts that have seen a lot use and abuse over the years and they can always use some extra attention.
My girlfriend has a lighter hand than I do and really knows her stuff on body buffing.
I think I'll let her have a go at my nuts with the light buffing idea.
If that doesn't get them shining like new I'll try more ideas.
