Race recap w/opinion & commentary

" Denny Hamlin showed the world that Jimmie Johnson is indeed beatable at the 0.5-mile Martinsville Speedway. But his impressive win in Sunday afternoon's Tums 500 Sprint Cup race did absolutely nothing to keep Johnson from closing in on a record-setting fourth-consecutive championship.........."

Good news from NASCAR........the World Series starts the 28th the Yanks take on the Phillies........2 in a row for Phillie?............

JJ has it...NASCAR wont let anybody get close.

Wayne Maybury 10-27-2009 08:13 AM

When that next yellow came out, Denny Hamlim said something like "they are giving him another shot at it" meaning that NASCAR was giving JJ another chance to get ahead on a restart since he couldn't pass Denny under green.

By the way, we have said that NASCAR is becoming more like the WWE and last night the WWE had Kyle Busch and Joey Logano as some sort of guests on their Monday night show.

John Cena was at a couple of tha races earlier this season...wasnt impressed with him in the NASCAR challenge when he got beat by Jewel........

The headline could read, surprised it has not yet appeared:

" NASCAR arranges for rain during qualifying , giving Johnson the pole position "

Article would mention the arrangement was made some time ago which would also give Johnson the 5 points for the pole and choice of pit position.

:(

That was the most boring race in history and even the announcers were bored. I was really worried about Newman until they got him out of the car and I am sure that NASCAR will penalize him for what he said, but he told the truth. As he said, "Any fan that thinks this is racing or exciting should go home now." And Rusty Wallace just kept on yelling, "Now don't change the channel, this is going to get exciting." Yea, watching 40 cars one car length apart in a single line for hours going in a circle is really excitement.

I liked it when Stewart radioed in and asked his crew chief to tell him a funny story to keep him awake and he radioed back that some person had set up a stand and was selling No Doze to the fans.

Ron

Once again glad that I did not watch it.

Ron61 11-02-2009 08:36 AM

John,

I tried to find another road race but none were on that I could get. Nascar is doing everything to give the championship to JJ. Called off qualifying because of some light rain and then turned around and ran the truck series a little later. But by starting by points JJ got the pole. The race is over now and I most likely won't watch any of the last three or four races.

Ron ;)

I couldn't believe that they allowed a few cars including the 48 of JJ to enter the pits and get some gas while Newman was on his roof and the safety crew was trying to get the car turned over. As soon as JJ and the other few exited the pits, they closed the pits down which resulted in several cars in front of JJ running out of gas. He didn't have a car fast enough to pass anyone, but with a little bit of luck and some help from NASCAR, he managed to move up from 25th to 6th in the last few laps. It was unbelievable.

Newman had a very fast car and he didn't hold back his opinion about these restrictor plate races. Just about every one of these races ends up with a massive wreck usually near the end. 35 cars going close to 200 mph while running only inches apart is a formula for disaster. One small error and all hell breaks loose.

Oh by the way, did anyone notice that some of the grand stands were almost empty? The overhead shots from the Goodyear blimp really showed just how few people were there.

Stands were not empty. They all decided to go buy the official NASCAR merchandice at the same time.

Ron61 11-02-2009 12:55 PM

Wayne, NASCAR is doing everything they can to assure JJ of that 4th straight championship and they are losing fans doing it. Every race that I have watched this year has a lot of empty seats and they try to keep the cameras from showing the stands as much as possible. I guess they all went to buy the No Doze that Tony Stewarts crew chief told him some people were selling.

Ron

Ron I have noticed that the ground level cameras tend to avoid showing the grand stands that are not very full but those overhead shots from the blimp did show just how many empty seats there were.

As far as Jimmy Johnson goes, I think that he is a very talented driver and his team is very well prepared. However, it almost seems like NASCAR has decided that he will be the champ again this year and that team gets some breaks that the others just don't get. Look at the race several weeks ago when he was down 3 laps. NASCAR promptly brought out 3 cautions allowing him to get back all 3 laps and also allowing his team to repair some damage on the car. It is difficult to prove favoritism however as half of all NASCAR cautions are bogus anyway.

I am glad to see that everybody that was involved in those wrecks is O.K.
there is no doubt that Jimmy Johnson is a good driver or he wouldn't be in NASCAR...
NASCAR has done everything to see that JJ will win the championship....
the raceing has suffered because of NASCAR.......
the people in charge should be removed and replaced with people that have raced....
and if NASCAR fines people for speaking there minds then NASCAR is a bunch of........

fsstnotch 11-02-2009 10:00 PM

BORING!!!!!!!! Half the race was single file!!! It's a superspeedway! It's supposed to be 2 and 3 wide nose to tail. oh well... NASCAR continues to ruin the sport with their stupid rules. But hey... as long as they can keep JJ winning! Really amazes me that Jr doesn't get the same treatment with as much fan base as he has. Of course he has some of the worst luck I've ever seen, either wrecked or blown up!

Despite the title of that story he didn't offer up any solutions....

Kind of like NASCAR advertising a "race" at Talladega.

rustyBob 11-03-2009 10:17 AM

to many rules and regulations will ruin just about anything................

Silverback51 11-03-2009 11:26 AM

How about if they implement rules like Trans Am did a few years ago. It's a stock car, so the body has to be stock. Trans Am allowed them to flare the wheel wells and slightly alter the body line from the beltline down. Above that they had to match the templates.

Do that, eliminate wind tunnel testing, and allow a little more track testing. The current car design is a joke.

Don 11-03-2009 12:52 PM

Quote of the day: " From Elliott Sadler on the "problems" associated with restrictor plate racing: "I really don't know what the fix [solution] is. I think NASCAR and all the drivers should sit in a private room, lock the doors and have a discussion and try to fix this together. That's what I'd like to see."

The challenge is to get concurrence from all the parties that want input from their perspective, such as car manufacturers, drivers, crew chiefs, sponsors, track owners, Team owners, NASCAR, TV commentators, writers, pit reporters etc., etc., ......and then us, the fans

rustyBob 11-03-2009 01:13 PM

some of these guys better watch what they say about NASCAR or they will get forced out like Mayfield did........
