With sponsors leaving next year and NASCAR limiting the amount of cars a team can have in a few years we should have 25 car races. Then it will be easy for them to get their entertainment license and script the races. I had more fun trying to keep up with Ernie and his wild turns yesterday than they do in NASCAR. And he drove faster in all that traffic too.

Can anyone tell me why a truck couldn't get tires and fuel on the same stop anyway? Now, if they would just drop the stupid lucky dog rule. My understanding was that this rule was introduced as a safety measure to stop guys racing back to the start/finish line when a yellow came out. However there is absolutely no need for that rule now as there are multiple electronic time keeping devices spread around each track. The field is immediately frozen electronically the instant a caution comes into effect. Of course if they get rid of this rule, some of the stars will sometimes finish the race several laps down.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Wayne,

That stupid Lucky dog rule helped nothing. They still race to try and be the first one in line so they can get it. When they throw their cautions the field should be frozen period. Same with caution flags so JJ can work on his car. On a pit stop under caution you should come back on the track where you were running and that would stop some of the phony cautions plus make it safer in the pits.

Jeff Gordon Fires Entire Pit Crew

Gordon's decision to take advantage of President Obama's plan to employ Harlem youngsters.
The decision to hire them was brought about by a recent documentary on how unemployed youths from Harlem were able to remove a set of wheels in less than 6 seconds without proper equipment, whereas Gordon's existing crew could only do it in 8 seconds with millions of dollars worth of high tech equipment. It was thought to be an excellent and bold move by Gordon's management team as most races are won or lost in the pits. However, Gordon got more than he bargained for!
At the crew's first practice session, not only was the inexperienced crew able to change all 4 wheels in under 6 seconds, but within 12 seconds they had changed the paint scheme, altered the Vin number, and sold the car to Dale Jr. for 10 cases of Bud, a bag of weed, and some photos of Jeff Gordon's wife in the shower.

Newman's feelings about the Talladega race. BORING and not racing.

I have gotten to the point that I just wait till the entire race is on my DVR and I just fast forward through it all until it looks like some racing is going on, or caution comes out. The Dega race I watched in all of about 30 minutes, as the single file racing and debris caution followed by the same non racing action took up most of the race.

The other reason for adding the lucky dog rule is guys would race to the line and not slow for accidents, I don't recall the specific race, but long story short, the accident was at the end of turn one and the guys racing back to the line ended up part of the accident rather then slowing down and accepting where they were.

At one of the local NASCAR sanctioned races here they killed a driver by racing back to the line.

This is such an easy fix, I cannot believe they still have their heads up their butts.

Appears the issue has escalated, note the mention of Tony Stewart and Dale Jarrett. To me, Dale is normally low keyed and has creditability, his opinion and comments need to be seriously considered.

TV Watch Article:

" NASCAR takes ABC to task for 'boring' race "
By Michael Hiestand, USA TODAY

" Almost everybody who watches TV sports is an instant critic. One exception: Sports leagues themselves, who almost never publicly criticize the networks that cover them. And when it comes to ESPN, and its various TV platforms including ABC, the last criticism you'd expect is that the worldwide leader in hype wasn't enthusiastic enough about something it had paid to cover.

But NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston, in a blog posting on nascar.com, specifically knocked ESPN/ABC's coverage of Sunday's Sprint Cup race in Talladega, Ala. At issue: Whether the race was boring.

Usually, TV sports analysts go to great pains to avoid even hinting what they're showing is boring. But Poston suggested ESPN/ABC analysts, including Dale Jarrett, "certainly weren't happy with the race and felt compelled to remind viewers of that virtually every lap. ... And along the way, ABC missed a lot of very good racing."

On Sunday's race on a long track with steep banks, NASCAR cited safety reasons for prohibiting so-called bump-drafting to provide extra room between cars on turns.

Although ESPN/ABC let viewers eavesdrop on driver Tony Stewart asking his crew during the race to tell him something interesting "so I don't fall asleep out here," Poston says the event had "seriously intense racing." ESPN, in a statement, said only that it had a "strong telecast" and had no comment on Poston's post. "

Nice, obviously it was ABCs fault. Too bad this has been a complaint for a long time. Ever since the first COT race, the racing has gone down across the board. I was hopeful the new car would bring better racing since it is harder to drive, but it is the opposite.

But this is no longer the case. Do they not have electronic timing devices all around the track? Is the field not frozen the instant that a caution is declared? There is no where to race to once the yellow comes out. I think that the only reason they kept that rule is so that NASCAR can get "stars" back on the lead lap.

rustyBob 11-05-2009 06:24 PM

didnt they start calling it the "lucky dog" because Aaron's was sponsoring some races?
maybe they will start calling it the "lucky JJ ".
nothing like haveing an expert commintator(former driver) call a race and tell people how boring it was.
thats why they call a pig a pig a cow a cow a dog a dog.
a boring race is a boring race........

Ron61 11-06-2009 03:52 AM

It isn't ABCs fault that NASCAR is no longer a valid racing entity. Nearly all of their races are boring and not racing at all, just scripted high speed parades. Do away with the dam Lucky Dog rule and that will stop a lot of last minute racing to get to be first a lap down. Stop counting the 1/3rd of the race that is ran under their caution flags so they can get their favorite people back in a position to win. This area used to almost come to a stop during the race on Sunday and now hardly anyone watches them. Also the stands seem to be having more and more empty seats.

I thought I read somewhere that they removed the stupid rule in trucks to allow them to get fuel and tires in the same stop but they were still stopping twice last night. First race I have watched in its entirety, and live in since the last truck race at Texas. The only reason I did, was because I was there. I still enjoy going to the track, but I spent just as much time socializing as I did watching the race. Let's see how it goes today. I ended up scoring tickets to both races in the Samsung Box at the speedway.

Not sure, but the rule change for above is for 2010, along with double file restarts. The separate fuel and tires pit stops were intended to reduce the costs of the extra pit person ( s ). Another change in 2010, not sure if it applies to all 3 series, is to change the design of the gas tank/refueling procedure to eliminate the catch can pit person.
