Thumbs down Chevy offers to buy back Volt.

Just read that Chevy will buy back any Volt from customers who feel the car may catch on fire, Even after the bailout Chevy still seems to dissapoint.

Every auto company has its occasional share of problems - let alone when introducing something as completely new and different as the Volt. Chevy sure didn't disappoint with the ZR1.

It's not whether or not the volt has problems, it's how Chevy handles it. And they seem to be handling it with class. That's all I ask for. Innovation is rarely problem free.

The Volts release date was postponed for 2 years and then they release a car that catches on fire, my point is after all Chevy has been through they kinda have to buy it back, its our tax money that built it.

I for one have been impressed with the new GM, and it has made me revisit them as a brand,- from their performance parts bussiness and support from The Wixom performance center, to the mainline , Cars and trucks available in the year 2011. -

The volt is an interesting car, and I am sure they will be successful with its revision and future iteration(s).

Just think - the 1963 Split window 327 Drum brake Sting Ray , eventually became the 67' 427 four wheel disc brakes Sting Ray.....

I have been happy with my interactions with GM, as Ford guys we could learn something from them.

Believe 100,000,000 small block Chevy V8 production has just been reached......since 1955.

For any Volt owner concerned about the safety of the car, a free loaner is being offered until an appropriate fix is installed.

What's the problem? Peronally, I think the fire would be a nice feature to have on any car. Let's see... side impact causes enough damage to intrude 5" into the batery pack followed by a roll over. Yeah, that's a car I'm going to want back repaired. No... I think a fire a week later while sitting in the back lot of body shop is more than I could ever hope for...

Agree......referencing the video of the Volt side impact crash test, could be the armor from the latest Army tank might have prevented the damage.

Main Battle Tank - M1, M1A1, and M1A2 Abrams

With auto's from any manufacturer, having been designed going back to day 1, why are there in some cases fires after a crash ?

Is in excellent condition to continue to compete in the global market. To even imagine that the United States would allow the auto industry to implode as a result of a collapse of the credit makets and the manipulation of the price of oil is just nuts. Thanks to quick and smart action in restructuring of the product line, the labor agreements, the dealership network...etc a catastrophe was averted.

The Volt has had three fire problems . 1. A test crash car that was used in a side impact test : then it was put outside fully charged for three weeks , they didnot follow the instruction in the manual to drain the batteries after a total . Then it was picked up with a fork lift and moved into there building to have further testing. 2. The owner was an electrial engineer that admitted he tamper with the wiring " to improve it " . 3. Its is under investigation at this time , but they found under gage wire at the plug at the owners home and the location of the plug is the origin of the fire. In todays Chicago Tribune Newspaper the Volts has the highest rating of satisfaction of 93 % buy owners, the highest of any car in the auto industry. It is the most advanted engineering in the world today. It is the first of its kind and improvements in this design will come . Why not go down to your Chevrolet dealer and drive one, then make your own opinion .

I did drive one, and the inflated price tag wont even make back your money in fuel costs savings, great marketing ploy, Bob Luts released the car then retired, I think he knew something we didnt. Averge sales price for car is $40,000, it gets 35 mpg, where is the value. Oh ya its in the $7500 tax credit, thanks government motors.

Does anyone remember the ford pinto? It could erupt into a fireball if rear ended just right. How about the explorer tire problem that could blow out (due to improper inflation specs) and cause a rollover. Or the corvair. No need to go there. Did their manufacturer offer to buy them back? No way. They just endured the class action lawsuits because it was the cheapest business option. That's the way the auto manufacturers used to think.

Give me a break. We are driving one of the most unsafe vehicles on the road. Every time we strap in, we put our life (and the life of whoever is sitting in the passenger seat) in jeopardy. So , now you are irked because the new Volt MIGHT have a potential problem?

GM has notified the public of the potential problem and offered to buy it back while searching for a fix. What more do you expect?

GM, good job!

The buyback is good, like I said what else can they do after there huge bailout, I bought a volt for my mother, its on its way back, or you can buy it from me, if you feel safe putting your family in it, or a pinto for that matter

Comparing the Cobra to the Volt on safety is just laughable, Really?

My company car is a 2009 Toyota Corolla,I get 36 to 40 mpg on the highway daily and paid $12,500.00 for it when I bought it, it now has 140,000 trouble free miles on it......and my last Corolla company car was totaled in a wreck, it "only" had 462,000 miles on it at the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll stick with an internal combustion engined car........

Thats why I drive a civic, same deal 150,000 miles and still havent replaced the clutch, 40mpg can beat the Volt in the quarter mile, insurance is $15 dollars a month, next time my mom gets an Accord.

Where did you get the 35 MPG figure ? What does Lutz,s retirement have any bearing on the Volt . Yes I would put my family in one . Gasoline is far more dangerest in an accident . Lets see, we have towed in two Fords with Key switches fires , one burned down there home , Any number of SUV,s with Firestone tire failures causing accidents , my point is it is a risk in any number of cars out there . Rumors , bad scare tactics . and half truth are a problem and worst for GM from the" Hate America First"" Hate Unions " groups . I would like to know how a number of imports have dangers cars on the road and have no news media to pick up on it and know recalls for years . We have seen this for years . Double Standard ? You be the judge .

The crash test for this and any electric vehicle require that the power source (the Battery) at the scene of an accident and remain disconnected while the vehicle is being stored or while body repairs are being done. Most Fire crews have had special training regarding ALL electric vehicles. With the available amprege available from the Batteries Electric vehicles pose a new concern that has not been prevelant before. GM is sensitive to any customer concerns for any of its vehicles, this is a case of Sensationalized Journalism. They are looking for a story, and want to pour GASOLINE on it.

Let me clarify my post: electric and hybrid/electric cars are not the answer.Spoke with one person that bought a hybrid electric Honda a few years ago and she was thrilled she was getting 35 mpg, then I told her I get 36 to 40 mpg daily with my gasoline car, kinda burst her bubble....
It's also a proven fact that building and maintaining an electric car harms the enviroment more than building and maintianing and driving a Hummer!!!!!
And we didn't even talk about price comparisons!!!!!!!!!!
So the 40 grand/35mpg Volt is a better deal than a 15 grand 40 mpg gas powered car of the same size?????????
