Brake and Lamp Check in Roseville Area
Just jumping through the last of the state-mandated hoops. Does anyone have any recomemdations for or against any particular location?
I am looking for a simple, non-painful examination...no colonoscope required.
Thanks!

Go to the CA State BAR in Elk Grove. I had my car looked at there, and it was a very painless process. Call ahead to make your appointment though.

Tom, they do a brake and lamp inspection?
Maurice, all I can say is "finally!"
I do have my BAR exemption, though .

Ron --
I had my inspection done at Auburn Service Center, 12205 Locksley Lane, Suite 14, Auburn, CA 95602 -- 530-888-1001.
They were recommended by Donna Leek of Professional Registration Services (see www.proregservice.com).
No problems!
Anxious to see your car --
Jeff

Are parking brakes required?
I'd like to know before I go through the trouble to put them back on.
Jeff, will we see you driving soon?

Ron,
Yes. Any competent B&L inspector who's willing to issue a cert (and keep their license) is likely to check your parking brake. Some times they will ask you to put the brake on, and try to push the car to see if it holds. I'd stay away from the runaround in Sac/Roseville and try Auburn first. Some of the few remaining B&L check shops might freak out when they see your car at first, so if you can go there in person without your car and run it by them first, might be better to get a feel for who will inspect it. They might need to remove your wheels if they cannot see the pads, etc. No, the BAR referee does not do a B&L certification to issue the cert itself, but once you do get to the BAR station/ref, they do check to make sure lights/blinkers are operational and will be looking for your completed and signed B&L certification along with all your other application papers, receipts for the build - if questions arise. Good Luck.

Well,
Duane, did you go all the way up to Auburn, too?
I guess I'll head up there....after I put the parkig brakes back on.
Fortunately, I'm done with the BAR. I've been back to the DMV where they sprung the B&L check on me. Didn't ask for it with my Cobra, and never mentioned it until now. But that's the last of it, I was told.

Hi Ron,
No, my last two Cobras were local and it's been a while for me on my own cars and since I sold my related business. i.e. I spent time up in that area and know some people up there and others who've moved there, etc.. i.e. typically, city folks around us are more uptight vs. the rural folk up there. If all you need now is your B&L cert, that's great. You are close. I always recommend the pre-visit without the car to help grease the skids. Usually you have to deal with the owner vs. the counter person, so ask for the owner/manager to cut to the chase versus getting the car up there to find out they don't want to do it once you get there.

I had mine done at Auto Service of Roseville. Quick In and out. The only thing they checked were the headlight adjustment because he said everything else was new! I have a line-lock e-brake, but I don't remember them even asking.
Good luck!

There ya go Ron! A referral around there is better than not.
Phil,
Do you recall, did they ask you to remove your wheels in front to see the pads? I got lucky a few times on my own cars, and not so lucky helping a friend the last time around. Things use to be fairly easy, then they started getting to be really strict the past 3-5 years after a few shops started getting popped for just signing them off after a quick look-see. Depends on the mood of the day I guess any more.

Duane,
They looked at the car and saw everything was new - that was it other than checking the headlights for alignment.
