What about plug wires, causing this problem. Danny had this backfiring running poorly problem not long ago. I think one issue was plug wires the other was a loose base plate in the elecronic distributor. Could be off base here but this sounds familiar. What injection system is on your car Mas-flow / Edelbrock ?.
