Thumbs up 2018 NWCC Glacier National Park Trip

So I am getting an early jump on the 2018 summer Cobra trip. This will be a unique trip and unlike any of the others we have done. For starters, I will be limiting the trip to 10 cars. That is new and I think will work out for the best for this particular trip. We will base out of Whitefish and do 3 separate day trips. So here are the details:

Day 1- Depart from the Auburn Wa. (Supermall) Monday July 30th and drive all the way Whitefish Montana (I know that is a long day)

Day 2- Custom route by Fred Hamilton (details to come)

Day 3- Custom route by Fred Hamilton (Glacier National Park)

Day 4-Custom route by Fred Hamilton (Big Fork and tour around Flathead Lake)

Day 5- Aug. 3rd Depart Whitefish and head home.

A few notes- Because this trip has two very long legs to get there and then return home I would strongly suggest trailering your Cobras. I know that may not set well with some, but it is a 10 hourish drive and then followed up by 3 full days in the car and then another 10 hours home. That said, if you are open to it, go for it. I think it will be much more fun being fresh and not beaten up so we can enjoy 3 days touring some of the best 2 lane roads in Montana with amazing scenery. We will have plenty of trailer parking at Big Mountain Lodge. So if you don't have a trailer, try and borrow one.
This is a trip I have wanted to do for the past few years and it finally has come together with the help of Fred Hamilton. Please book rooms early for best selection. I have set up a Northwest Club Cobra block with the Big Mountain Lodge so please call and make reservations for yourself. More details as we get closer. Group reservations will drop after the end of April.

Big Mountain Lodge- 406-862-4020 ($138 a night) breakfast included

I have 4 routes planned
Trip 1
Whitefish to Eureka
Eureka to Rexford
Rexford to Yaak
Yaak to Libby
Libby to Trego
Trego to Whitefish
Total Miles 253

Trip 2
Whitefish to Many Glacier
Many Glacier St Mary
St Mary to Logan Pass
Logan Pass to Whitefish
Total Miles 264

Trip 3
Whitefish to Happys Inn
Happys Inn to Eureka
Eureka to Whitefish
Total Miles 196

Trip 4
Flathead Lake Loop
Total Miles 145
Gas is always within 100 miles, a lot of the back roads are forest service roads and are paved. I will make a pre ride on all the roads. Those that want to get here on a Sunday and leave on a Saturday I can always make sure we have roads to drive and places to shop. I will have a BBQ on one of the nights.

Thumbs up

Fred and Jake,

Thank you guys soo much for setting this up, and you can count the two of us in for this trip as well! Reservations made. One more king bed room open, better book fast!

This is already reminiscent to 2003 NWCC Cobra Ride through Canada to Whitefish, hoping it will not be 119-degrees this time around.
2003 NWCC Run

But like that trip, I'm hoping that the "Motor Heads" aka the US Custom's Officers, will come along and ask us all to burn our tires off! Sanctioned burn offs are the best.

Kevin
Hope you or anyone else won't need it but I do have 2 car trailers that will be ready if needed.
Don't feel bad about breaking, we will drive right by the place I blew the motor.

Than you Fred for your generous offer. Fortunately, you can opt-me-out as a trailer candidate. I'll be bringing my Snake in my Pace American car hauler to Whitefish, to save the wind beating, UV exposure, and reduce the ringing ears. Plus having already registered to participate in the Reno Nevada, Hot August Nights Car Extravaganza Fest--which begins on Tuesday August 7th 2018--I'll be heading directly from Montana to HAN after the NWCC Cobra Ride. Sincerely look forward seeing both Brenda and you again, and riding our Snake as one of your dedicated Wingman once again.

We are planning to arrive about a week early, and Di and I would enjoy getting together with you two before the rest of the Club Cobra Troop converge on Whitefish and we begin our campaign of wreaking havoc on the NW Montana roads.

Cheers!

Hi Jake,
Sounds like you have a wonderful cruise planned for next Summer. I noticed the 10 car limit. I would be interested in registering to go if your not full. I may also have another couple that would like to join the cruise, Bruce and Kathy Frydenlund. They members of Cascade Cobra. Look forward to hearing from you. Mike Roy

Kevin,
Thanks for the notification about booking the hotel for the 2018 NWCC Glacier National Park Trip. I booked at Big Mountain Lodge this morning, so Judi and I will be participating. There were still four rooms available on the block. See you in July

Looks as if we will have 9 cars, Kevin, Steve and myself won't be needing rooms. 10 is a nice number but I'm sure we could fit it a few more.

Hi Fred,

"40K Later" is unable to make the ride. I had counted him in my earlier post which I have corrected, not sure if you had figured him in your math of 9 due to my error.

Mike glad you and Judi will be there!

Cheers,
Kev

Fellow Snake Charmers,

I just cancelled my king bed hotel room reservation at the Big Mountain Lodge so if anyone wants it I'd give them a call ASAP. Unfortunately you folks did not get rid of us that easily, I'm just driving the coach and towing the Snake Pit on wheels there instead so I can hang out longer in MT.

Any one with reservations at the Big Mountain Lodge should call and confirm with the hotel. I received a call from Wyndham saying they were cancelling the reservation. I called the hotel and got reinstated.

I too received a call from Wyndham this morning, stating they couldn't honor my reservation, made months ago. I threw a tizzy, called the hotel, they said it was a mistake. Hell of a way to start an old guys morning. All is good.
