Default Weber said "Good Luck Stopping Popping!!!!

I installed a set of 44 IDF weber carbs on my 347 Stroker. Syncronized carbs but cant seem to stop popping from sidepipes. I spoke to Weber and the man said "GOOD LUCK trying to stop that. Is popping common when using webers. The engine has not been dynoed and perhaps popping could be minimized. Those of you who know webers, what do you think!

Popping when letting off gas is very common. Popping while accelerating isn't good.

I've tinkered enough to tell you that I don't know how the heck to make it stop popping on deceleration.

from my limited experience i understand the popping on decelleration to be fuel dumping into the exhaust then igniting when o2 from an exhaust leak is intermixed, how the stuff ignites i have no idea.

When do you experience the popping? Part throttle? Cruise? Deceleration? Full throttle?

As above, when does it happen, what rpm at what throttle?

What's the settings of the carbs:

Venturi, emulsion tube, main, air, idle, pump jet, pump bleed, float level?

You really need a wideband O2 data logger to note the A/F ratio at the time of popping.

Please post the air corrector, and jet sizes (idle & Main) as well as venturi size & emulsion tube # you are currently using.
We need that info before we can point you in the right direction.

Andy,
stormwaterllc@aol.com.

I've lost two hats this weekend with my low rider windshield if you can call it that!!!!!!!!

It's so unforgiving on I-5 at 80 MPH.

set the idle a little bit higher and turn the mixture screw out a little bit more than needed and most of the popping on deceleration will go away. It will also pop if your idle mixture is too lean.Go one size up on the idle jet.
Also check that your exhaust manifold has no leaks.
Some popping will be always be there, so get used to it.

I agree with Eljaro. I have 48IDA's on a Side-Oiler. Backing the idle mixture screws out little-by-little corrected the popping I was getting from the pipes when lifting off the throttle at crusing speed or after accelerating quickly. I didn't have to change the idle jets but that would have been my next step if the idle screw adjustment didn't do it.

Unfortunatly, I'm not the mechanic, I will have my mechanic read all posts on Monday and he will ask some more questions I'm sure. Thanks to all you guys who responded. Without people like you, I could not own a Cobra! I am very thankfull.

Poping, I dont remember any of those race cars in the sixty poping with there webers. They must have had them down cold as far as jetting etc,etc.. I dont think I well put the webers on tell fall, mybe Fred well have them here in June.? They should be close, on the setting as Fred has a 428 and I have a 427. Mybee I should talk to the Viper guy that wanted to trade the guy on BI for his classic 427
