i think the default was COB******
when the cobra was exprted to europe etc it was easy to put in a X for export.
and for shelby cars, the Carrol Shelby eXport or Cobra Shelby Export was used as the logical 3 letter acronym, although i believe the provenance is arguable.

Just for clarity, CSX did not stand for Carroll Shelby Export.
