I didn't want to hijack the thread, just show my enthusiasm for CSX2323.

CSX2323 is presently in Irvine, California and has been owned by the same person for several years. It was restored at the Shelby museum in Denver, Colorado.

Default '64 Targa Florio

Coincidentally, was reading about the ’64 Targa Florio a couple of days ago in Friedman’s and Christy’s ‘Carroll Shelby’s Racing Cobra’. In the race Jerry Grant drove CSX 2323 (no. 146) with Dan Gurney, but in a practice ‘session’ Bob Bondurant and Jerry shared a Cortina for checking out the route. Roads were only closed for the actual race, not practice, so other road users and spectators were in for interesting times. Bondurant did a lap at speed with Jerry passengering; then they swapped for another lap. It seems Bob had upset some village locals with his enthusiastic driving, so when Jerry came through the same village in the same car, a crowd forced him to stop. A double-barelled ‘lupo’ was shoved into his ear with the advice “One more time and…BOOM”!
Gurney and a more prudent Grant scored an 8th o/a and 7th in GT class in CSX 2323. Hey, every car/driver that finished the Targa under that combination of conditions was a winner!
Cheers,
Glen

Thanks for the response. I started with a Scale Coachworks 1/24th resin FIA Cobra transkit (not sure if it's still available), and added parts from the Revell Cobra, AMT Cobra and the metal SMTS 427 Cobra kits, as well as aftermarket wheels/tires, brake rotors and calipers, scratch-built roll bar from Evergreen bar stock, MCW scale lacquer paint, braided oil lines, metal screen and a few other goodies. The model took about a year to complete.
