Hood Removal on Original 427

If the hood has been off the hinges may have been modified to the two piece. You need the radiator and trim pieces out of the way as the Kiwi said.

I just wasn't sure if I needed to take the radiator completely out and remove the two side panels that are riveted in. I will try to get it out without removing the radiator and side panels. I will take off the top radiator hose. May also need to take out the electric fan I have added since it will keep the radiator from moving back.

You can raise the radiator by removing the lower mounting washers and cotter pins and the upper mount and shield cotter pins and bolts. I usually block the radiator up about 6-7 " because it is on an angle and will give you room to clear the hood hinges. I usually have at least three people for the removal one on each side holding the hood at the front and rear on the sides and one in front removing the hinge bolts. You should also put blue tape on all the margins where the hood could contact to protect the paint. The hood is very light and fairly easy to manage but it is difficult to control because of it's size. You have to drop the front down and then go rearward to allow the hinges to clear the nose area, that is why the radiator needs to be up and back. It is a real PITA because you have to drain the radiator and pull both main hoses and the overflow tank hose to move it. Good luck!
