Default Dissapointment with reproduction Ford sol.

I sure am dissapointed with the quality of the reproduction Ford regulator and solonoid I bought from one of the big 3 Mustang reproduction parts suppliers.

The first reproduction 1965 Ford regulator I bought was DOA but I thought it was my fault. Bought another one. No go either. Had both tested and both had internal faults.

Bought a good quality modern solid state version, swaspped on the vintage 60's black regulator cover and voila, everything worked!

The first 65 reproduction Ford solonoid stuck "ON" (spinning the started continuously) shortly after installation and after only about a dozen starts. Hit the battery disconnet switch real fast.

Bought another one and now 6 months later it's sufferring a stuck "OFF" symptom (no power to the starter). Give it a rap with a pastic hammer and it works.

So, can anyone recommend a good reliable solonoid? I have a Dralast sitting on the shelf from a local auto parts store.

Thanks for youe help.
Greg

Current wisdom on the Ford and Mustang forums is to stick with Ford replacement parts. Specifically Motorcaft SW-3 (B6AZ-11450A).

Ordered one from Summit ($23.95). Hope its not Made in China.

Next choice is a Standard Motor Parts Blue Streak SS581X. Can't find this p/n but Summit has the SS581 available. This manufacturer supposedly supplies Made in USA parts.

We'll see.

Cheers

I've always bought them at my local Ford dealer, then swapped the vintage cover over to the new unit.

Ordered a Motorcaft SW-3 (B6AZ-11450A) from Summit ($23.95). No country of origin on the part or Ford Motorcraft box.

And ordered a Standard Motor Parts Blue Streak SS581. This manufacturer's website claimed Made in USA parts. But made in China on the box. Bummer.

I'll install the Ford Motorcraft.

Cheers
