Default Is this car a genuine CSX2xxx car?

Is this 289 a ‘real one’?

https://www.classicdriver.com/en/car...ra/1964/525659

Strangely, one of the pictures in the link shows a 427 fender badge. Obviously it’s not a 427, however to my untrained eye the car looks convincing as a 289, but is it real? If so, which one is it?

Cheers,
Glen

Based on the descripton the car was used in the 60īs and 70īs for drag race and is listed
In the shelby registry on page 282 , so it can be.....

If someone can check the registry, you can get the CSX vin

Many thanks Frank. My German's not that good, so I missed the page 282 reference.

So....it's CSX2504, and its owner described as "unfriendly" and unwilling to discuss the car (that's from the 4th ed.)

That would be when it was in Western Tenn with the motor blown up.

Is the car in Germany now?

I had a chat with the vendor in Germany, he said he has a complete documentation of the cars history, but he wasn't willing to tell any details, he said I must come to have a look at the documents to evaluate these.

Before the chat I had a look into the registry, there is no documentation of continuance since the 80th.

Interesting that the front running lights are amber and the wipers park on the wrong side.

Also wrong rear bumper, incorrect gauges, shifter is too far back, glovebox door incorrect, entire charging system incorrect, seats incorrect... I’d be doing ALOT of research on that before I put down any money!

AC badging - would that not make this a COX car, not a CSX?

My guess is that it's a fairly late chassis sold into the German market. That would explain the LHD, lights and gauges. The glove-box is weird, though.

Can't imagine what was going through someone's mind in slapping 427 badges on it - even for a late model replica.

If it's a late chassis, sold into Germany, and that's why it has the Smiths/Lucas gauges, when did Cobras (late 289s and 427s) start using that style of Lucas ammeter and Smiths fuel gauge, and also the 40degC to 140degC water temp gauge in place of the 30degC to 100degC gauge?

Cheers,
Glen

You assume that the original gauges weren't replaced because they broke.

Hi Bob,

Well, I'm assuming that the owner of a quite valuable car would go to reasonable lengths to find correct replacement gauges for his/her car. Wouldn't you if you had a CSX2xxx car?

Cheers,
Glen

It will be interesting to see what the guy who has this car says its history is. Never can tell when the registrar throws a red herring into the book to catch people off guard. My bet is, this car is a complete fabrication with no claim to the VIN whatsoever.

Reminds me of a red w/white stripe 289 that was available in California a few years ago, somethings wrong with it didn't begin to address the issues related to the car. I'm sure Ned remembers the car.

After seeing the 427 emblems, on a 289 car for heavens sake, I'd bet Patrick's house on it being a fake. And as Larry noted, the shifter is way too far back.

If that were the case, the fender badges make no sense at all and is the easiest thing to correct.

I've heard about that registrar. Surely he'll trip himself up in a big and legally expensive way eventually?
