Did anybody that stood in line on Jan 2 not get a number? It seems like 500 pretty much handled the demand or am I way off base? I would much rather see them charge if they have to and make SB100 sequence numbers available to all that want one.

Dan-

If the car is LEGALLY TITLED in Texas as a 1965 Ford, then, according to other posts here, including one by Mr. Morgester of the CA Attorney General's office, the DMV has to accept that classification of the car. It is a loophole in the law. You would not need SB-100.

Caveat: I am not a lawyer, nor an authority on this, so don't just take my word for it. I'm only repeating what I've read in other posts.

Red, I was actually thinking about the "charging" aspect last night. There was one story posted on CC about one person, I think in Pleasanton, getting five SB100 numbers. You would think if you could make the process similar to how Google stock was auctioned off. You enter in an amount that you want to pay and see if you can purchase an SB100 number. That might stop these guys from taking multiple #'s without vehicles, assuming that's what they were doing.

The 500 may have handled demand for this portion of the year, but there are always people who buy cars during the remainder of the year who might want a number and can't get one.

I watched on the 2nd as the DMV employees dialed over and over in an attempt to get in to the Sacramento location. If this went on statewide, at each office, how many man hours were wasted (there were 3 attempting at my location alone)? Registering these 500 vehicles statewide is a drop in the bucket, however it would seem that there would be a more efficient way to do this since it is focused within very short 5 hour period. I would think a secured website that they used would be a better deal. When the 500 are gone access would be denied?????

SB 100 numbers are for home built cars that are for personal use, and not for resale. If someone is getting five numbers, they are probably operating a business building cars and using the SB 100 process to register them. This may be a violation of the law, and is certainly a violation of the spirit of the law. I think part of Boyd Coddition's legal problems had something to do with SB 100 numbers and fraudulent registrations.

For the people who went through the SB100 process last January (2007), when did you guys begin to receive your SB100 certificates and/or paperwork from the DMV? Thank you.

The DMV manager told me several times that it takes 2-4 weeks to get them out. Also, as of late last week, Sacramento was still sifting, sorting and confirming all the information.

10-20 business days may be more like it. I think using calendar days may be a little optimistic.

At least you know you have one coming. I on the other hand...............

HI Guys,

Rod...Don't give up yet, go back to the DMV office you dealt with be nice and put some guilt on them that if any SPCNS numbers become available from any irregularities for this year that they help you.

Ask them to call the same organization in Sacramento that is reviewing all of the documents and if there are any numbers that are disallowed i.e. obtained fraudulantly by individuals for resale/manufacturer that you be given consideration.

In years gone by I recieved the SPCNS documents within a few days.....I was surprised then but, this delay may be for a review period to make sure that the law is being followed to the letter........or I may be giving the DMV too much credit.

Tony, who knows, my paperwork snafu may be causing the delay in the SB100 numbers being issued, or at least one of reasons. They may be searching for fraud, irregularities, etc. in order to find me a "chair after the music stops." I'm not giving up, but I'm definitely lowering my expectations.

When we last spoke last week, the DMV manager told me by phone that I'll have a number, but I'm not confident that's the case. She gave me a new # and told me that my "number could still change." In any event, I think I could guilt the manager into giving me an "11-month TOP" (or many, many of them) until next years' 2009 "extravaganza" in a worst case scenario. Otherwise "Can I have my money back, please."

Thanks for the sentiments. It helps my keep my mood up.

Come on Doug, tell the truth. You've been on a leave of absense from work just waiting each day by the mailbox.
