Those are good pics Migge! Thanks for sharing.

Is it me, or do those rivet head positions look a bit off or not uniform? I'm assuming they were just done by eye.

I am looking for more pics, but I just haven't seen any, yet.

I found this pic in a Hot Rod article discussing a Factory Five build.

Yeah, lots of riveting on an FFR. I've done two. Hands gets pretty sore after a while unless you wimp out and buy a pneumatic gun!

Cobras, real CSX cars where build as race car. I don't think they used micrometer to check the space on rivets

FFR's have lots of aluminum panels but they are inner panels and not part of the body. None wrap the frame and are generally flat, as is the birdcage tubing. Original cars have inner panels too but it's the body that actually wraps the frame.
Didn't want you confuse how FFR panels are attached vs how original bodies are attached.

Default The Art of Engineering by David Kirkham

Thanks for your input, migge, Larry, Dwight, et al. I appreciate your time.

The only thing I have found, so far, remotely pertinent is D Kirkham's aoe pdf's still found here
The Art of Engineering by David Kirkham

In particular, Chapter 18: Aluminum Body, but the ones on chassis (427) are exciting, too.

Default Cobra Restorers' blueprints

I don't know much about their plans, CP1001 $199.95.

Cobra Restorers Ltd. 427 Cobra Chassis blueprints

Quote:
427 Cobra Chassis Nine pages
completely detailed and dimensioned prints of the 427 Cobra
chassis with all suspension pick up points and differential locating
brackets, plus details of body mounting support system. Does not
include A-arms, spindles or uprights.
  • Has anyone bought these?
  • Is this chassis blueprint a reverse engineering of the original?
  • Is their documentation of the body mounting support system for the original body?

From what I read on their site I am inclined to believe it is, but is it?

Do a search on CC about their plans. They have issues as well.

CompClassics,

Nice pic. Thank-you.

Why on earth would someone cut their frame's tube like that?

It didn't look damaged.

That is just the body support structure, sometimes referred to as the outrigger tube.

Thank's for the info, CompClassics.

I think it would be helpful if some frame pics were posted here showing the body support structure. it would serve as a map.

I am aware of two. Here is one that was posted by a member on another of my threads.

There was a show last week on the REVN TV Channel, Dream Car Garage, that did remove the body and showed everything about it. They restored the Cobra in the weekly shows. Season 4- 2004. Talked about on Club Cobra (03-2004, Shelby and racing history.). CSX 3006. Google it up. Should be able to watch now.

sunman,

Thanks for the tip. I'll be looking for it when next I go "in search of".

Larry,

I can't see your images that are linked to photobucket.com. My browser and
photobucket are just incompatible. I've tried various settings and no go. The
only reason that I saw your other photo was that I was on another computer
using firefox.

Interesting. I can see it both on my computer and my phone, so I don't think it's on my end! I've been using photobucket for years. Not sure what to do about that one.

I can only attach or insert photos 600x600 in pixel size.

Here is a pic (albeit reduced in size) of one of cobrawiki's 427 frames. He
posted this on another of my threads.

(please click thumbnail for larger size)

But, here is a link to his big pic, 1091x614 pixels.

one of cobrawiki's latest 427 frames

When I first saw this, I started imagining how the body started to fit into place.
