Workmanship is outstanding

Hi Craig - Your car is coming out AWESOME!!! I am jealous at how quickly you were able to fit all of the panels. I do have to agree that the doors are the toughest - I might have to give you a call for some pointers as I will be skinning them next month. Were you able to make your trunk lid out of one piece of aluminum or is there a weld? Either way it looks incredible. Adding the license plate feature is a bit tricky.

It's internet magic;), the trunk lid on this one is one piece. The other car we are building is a two piece skin.

I had a little bit of time today to start working on the hood for this 427 build,
I started with the rear section of flashing. Unfortunately I ran out of rivets so that killed today's progress on this deal.

I was able to get back on this hood panel for our 427 build the last couple of days.
First I finished up the flashing, then trimmed the flashing to fit the hood opening.

Then I placed the hood frame onto the underside of the hood skin and marked the cut line, then cut the skin, cleaned up the edges and started the process of folding over the edge of the skin to fix it to the frame flashing.
Lots of clamps, and lots of hammer work.

Amazing, beautiful work! Please keep the pics and details coming!

It's fun watching this go together. Would be interesting to see the tools/technique for rolling the hood skin edges over the flanges and keeping it even. Also, how you correct for any minor alignment for final fitting. Nice work!

Fantastic work, did the outer hood skin need wheeling much or did it just need a slight curvature putting length ways into the aluminum skin? The reason I ask this is to see if it's possible to make a hood without using an English wheel as it doesn't seem to have a great compound curve to it
Thanks..

Work of art!
You do great work and belong in the scratch builders hall of fame.

Thanks for the great complements, it's kind of like painting, you have to get the prep right.

Yes, you have to get shape in the panels first.

Next up is start the process of inner panels, mock everything up then remove for body paint.
This can be a little tricky, you must have all your folds right or things wont fit.

albanycobra 11-11-2015 06:09 PM

keep the detail coming, sensational work. Really enjoying this thread. PM sent.
