Joe,
There's nothing wrong with a Factory Five car. I personally know of several in our local group that are exquisite cars. You're just going to have to de-sensitize yourself a bit to all of the various comments that you're going to hear as they relate to replica Cobras. I've actually had a couple of experiences with folks asking if my car is a Factory Five and when I say "no, it's made by a company called Superformance", they give me a look like they're thinking " geez, if it's not a Factory Five, it must be some kind of POS". Like others here have said, for those who are genuinely interested in your car, take the time to talk to (and educate) them. For the others, just let them say what they want and be on their way.

OP- take it for what it is. At the end of the day who cares what others think of your car, you built it for you and that's all that matters. As long as everytime your in it and puts a smile on your face that's what matters.

Don't let a few people keep you from obtaining knowledge that you can get from this forum. Like any forum you will have some people who will think that their car is the best and all the others are a POS. Do what i do and block the repeat haters as they are not worth my time reading what they have to say.

I also think that most who asks have heard of factory 5. But they dont know of other brands or anything about real cobras.
My car is no where done. I get asked when they see my plywood buck with some aluminum panels on it if I am building a kit car. I tell them I am scratch building. There next question is who makes the kit or they say a wooden car with a puzzled look on there face.

Let's get this straight.
FFR cars a a great car and a great build.
But to be honest they also make by far more replicas than all others.
It's a volume thing.
When someone say's is that a FFR? It's only because that's all they know.
It's not because they are a poor car.
They have been very successful with there cars thus why they are usually the car seen.
FFR = great car and chassis
FFR = the most cars made in #, probably including all others.
FFR = no slight
My only issue with them is that they close their annual open house to all other cars.
The Cobra is why they are in business.
My son wants to build a FFR however after we were sent down the road in our car for the open house my son wants a Mini...... Burnt a bridge with a youngster ...

From one scratch builder to another,
Bob - just don't worry about it. There will be other people (other than the guy on a gas station) who appreciate your hard work and efforts, not even mention money.
Drive and be happy!

Good thing you cleared that up Peter. When I saw the second pic I thought you knocked the old dude out for asking you if your car was a Factory Five.

Just say "yes" to everything. I built a few other cars which you can't even buy as a kit. I just reply, yes.
A Diablo is essentially a kit. Yes, Lamborghini made the motor and transmission (and interior?) and the rest came as a kit to the factory.
You get higher recognition if you buy an airplane kit and build it than building a car from scratch. No matter if you ever fly it.
It is what it is.

[quote=Three Peaks;1403705]At least three times in the last few weeks I've been at cruise ins or at the gas station filling up and I've been approached by people looking at the car. The first question from these guys is "is that a Factory Five kit?" Last night, after the question I simply said no, trying to concentrate on filling my tank without spilling gas on the paint. So he says, "well, it's still a pretty nice car" as he walks away....
I sure understand the feeling, my CMC car has been the stepchild for quite some time even on this forum. At first it stung a little bit but finally realized it is ridiculous to let this get to me. My car was lovingly built exactly the way I have always wanted a Cobra, it was set up for road racing and does amazingly well drag racing and I so enjoy seeing it sitting in the shop as do all that walk through and see it.
The comments now make me smile knowing most have no clue, the ones that walk away even better I would not want to talk with them anyway. Over the years have given a lot of people rides all walk away eyes wide open shaking their heads in disbelief. That alone makes it all worth it and the Title has my name on it.
Enjoy your ride!!!
Mike

Went to a Cars & Coffee yesterday morning. A guy spent a lot of time telling me how much he's researched the replica market and studied all the characteristics and pros and cons between the various manufacturers. Then he said he was leaning toward getting a "Super Performance".

In my neck of the woods (Eugene) if it's not a Camaro or a jacked up 4WD it's a UFO.

I stopped at Lowe's while out on a cruise early this morning. A very curious older gentlemen approached me while I was getting out telling me how nice my car was and he really liked. He wanted to know the year and I told him it was a Replica of a 65. He said "Replica or not that is one really nice Corvette." Which then started a whole new conversation. Funny stuff.

People are just striking up a conversation. How someone reacts to it says more about themselves than anything.
I had someone frown and comment about the rock chips in my paint, and ask if I was going to get it re-painted. I just laughed and told them it's patina. Their frown turned into a grin and they laughed with me. Cheers.

I had the same experience Dan. Guy across the street from me told me I had a nice 'chrome' Corvette. Reality is as was said a bunch of times above most folks just don't know what they are looking at and are just trying to strike up a conversation. Over the next few years this will increase a lot as guys who were in their 20's, 30's or 40's during the original Cobra's heyday will drop out of the car scene. Gonna have to put a fart can on my Kirkham and "stance" it in order to get any prop's :-)

Don't feel insulted. They just do not know. Most of the young people today are into the import cars.

At the last show and shine I attended I was between a Dodge Stealth and a Subaru BRZ - both nice but not significantly modified. I had people who walked past the Cobra as if it was invisible and others who made a beeline to the Cobra as if the Stealth and BRZ were invisible.
Different strokes for different folks.
