Default 427 Frame, rear gusset

I just replied to a differential question on the originality forum:

If you build an original frame make sure your axle shafts and forks holding the universal joint fit through the rear gusset!!

It takes quite some time and beer to enlarge those holes once the tank is in place and body is mounted...

How did WE do it? We fabricated a circular cutter, centered in the axle shaft flange, held by a mount bolted to the axle shaft studs.

How will YOU do it? Laser cut that gusset hole bigger!

Hi Dom, good to see you here again. I just talked with the local driveshaft shop and was bemoaning the use of a 1410 universal on the axles with a 1350 on the driveshaft. It made sense to the driveshaft guy because of the torque multiplication through the gears. The other consideration for the excessive strength on the half shafts is the angle they work at and travel through with the suspension which would be why they are just big industrial units. I'm plasma cutting them BTW ;-)

Hi Nick!

Always great to "hang out" with you guys. Ironically, I joined CC after the 2000 Vegas convention where we showed up in a Hertz Mustang (new model), and ever since I wasn't in the USA!

So, in actual fact, except for a few talks in 2000 and mid 90s in Atlanta I am a "nobody" :-)
