Default Feedback: "Not truthful with description"... interesting parabole

but it does seem doubtful he would be willing to add to the description the lack of traceability to the real 3016 and that the real car had been found. The potential for real excitement is some day when the owner of what is left of the original car along with the ownership rights sells it to someone who is really adamant and about defending his property.

Sellers comments to my inquiry:

"We know their is controversy around this car stemming from the fact that it was badly damaged. And if it had better provenance the value would be greater that where we have it priced. My principal has reports from a number of authorities about the right to identify this car as 3016, and serious prospects are invited to review the car and supporting documents in order to form their own opinion.

Sure, ok,

I see the typical "this many were produced" "Carroll Shelby himself" "this magazine test recorded"..........I get so used to seeing the same quoted exerts used so many times. It seems that seeing a whole line and a half of generic description on any specific one of these cars in an advert is laughably quite a lot.

If the real 3016 has provable documentation, why hasn't all this been worked out? The longer time goes by, the more validity the one being advertised as 3016 has.

I note that he avoids discussing what those "authorities" concluded regarding this car's right to claim the 3016 VIN. Which is understandable.

I've been amazed by stories like this that have plagued the (real) Cobra world for decades. During my Cobra days (1969-75), I met more shady characters who, for some reason, were drawn to the cars like flies to flypaper. Back then, Cobras weren't the big buck creatures they are now, but some of the screenplays would have been good Sopranos material.

Anyone remember Larry Megibow?

Yup, and I remember cars being stuffed in to a large moving van one dark night.

So do I have this right? So this comes down to a guy with a finished beautiful car that is For Sale , but maybe ( and lets say it again"Maybe") some questions or blanks in its history. With another guy who "maybe" has a twisted pile of scrap tubing in a barn somewhere that no one has seen or has pictures of , but is claimed to be the genuine CSX3016. Am I missing something?

Thor, "maybe" if you knew the extent of the inconsistencies in the back-story of the car being offered for sale, you would understand more clearly how credence might be attached to the other car, even if its entire story has yet to be revealed.

I did

"Sir,

Billy Andrews, Mike McCluskey, Dr. Bob.

We believe and acknowledge that this issue with this car is not whether it has the right to be called 3016, the state of CA and Shelby Registry do not question that. The matter is how much of the car was born 3016. We do not dispute that the car has been largely reconstructed. But it has been welcomed at many events, and will still be welcome. So the question is establishing value. We expect that any prospective purchaser will perform their own due diligence, and Mr. Branston is happy to share the information we have.

Cheers,
Craig"

I have advised my client and good friend to pass at this time.

I got a call into Mike McCluskey for clarification cause I cannot imagine that he would approve of his name being used to validate and sell this car

In my opinion, falsely identifying a car of this type for profit should be criminal. If these persons involved were charged just like counterfeiters, the problem wouldn't exist.

I also sent Dr. Bob an email requesting clarification, as I discussed the car with him not long ago and there wasn't any endorsement.

I am assuming "Dr.Bob" is Bob Gingold, a long-time Cobra enthusiast who has great knowledge of the cars, and is the owner of CSX 3133.
