Default CSX 4000/6000 series install manual --

Any interest in a CSX 4000/6000 series install technical manual.

Dennis from Dyanamic and I have been kicking about the idea.

Suggestions on what you would like to see , and needed help with would be things that we would find helpful to decide on this.

From the Dealers, there does not seem to be a concrete path of information.

--Comments and Ideas welcome.

Yes! I actually can't believe there isn't one, but I guess most CSX cars are assembled by dealers.

Just take the ERA manual's Table of Contents and create a CSX manual that includes the same information, but obviously tailored to the CSX cars. I've even heard of folks putting together other makes of Cobras and using the ERA manual as the instruction guide.

Yeah!
I would love any tech material on the car I can get.
I have been trying to collect any info I can get
So far I have a wiring diagram and some fuel cell info.
Patrickt has a good idea but I have an original 427 Cobra manual and I think that would be much closer I am sure he will have another opinion/disagreement on that

At a minimum, the following should be detailed. But it's never going to get done; somebody might start it, but it'll turn in to a half-ass job because they'll realize how difficult it is and then turn their attentions elsewhere... like cultivating their grilling skills, fishing, working on a tan, etc.

Wow! in alphabetical order too..

Anyway, a lot of those things are covered in the original manual. Such as carpets and tonneu covers.

But, you could source out a some of it also. Just getting tech info from Baer on the brakes would cover that and all of the tech from fuelsafe for the fuel cell, pickups and sending units. Maybe SA could help fill in the gaps such as were to find seat and guage sources.
It would be really nice to map out and solve all of the suspension tech info. I know its very similar to the original but info on the whole upright issues and what springs and shocks have been used.

Default Not to hijack the thread...

... but I remember a nicely detailed thread, with many photos, from last year that was supposed to become the manual for the Kirkham. Did a true Kirkham manual ever see the light of day?

Kirkham does have that build thread as their form of a manual, with plenty of pics, as well as a thread for questions pertaining to the build thread, but a complete written manual was never finished. Parts of it are posted on their website by section, with many sections listed with no information.

Thanks, the fact that the Kirkhams, as meticulous as they are, have not produced a manual shows you how difficult a quality job really is. The ERA manual is almost on a par with the GM Service Manuals I have. No offense, but I don't think a CSX manual of any decent quality is going to come about unless somebody that really knows their cars, has built them, has an engineering degree and CAD experience, is hired and paid well to do it. Otherwise, the lure of grilling up some burgers while casually fishing and working on one's tan is going to step to the forefront....

Here's the Kirkham Build thread for reference:

Kirkham Motorsports Assembly Manual

"Not too shabby", as Adam Sandler would say.

While I'm sure there will never be another manual the likes of ERA, I agree that it will take someone with auditor/CPA/legal mentality to fully document the build, since there's no payola at the end of the rainbow, and only potential criticism. Personally, I would rather be flipping burgers (veggie, of course, maybe turkey or buffalo) in the backyard.

Rokndad recently changed from carb to Webers on his CSX and was contemplating putting together a manual of sorts for those who are thinking of installing Webers. Tough work.

I'm still thinking. Have all the pix and notes of every step. I just solved another oil leak today, and I'm thrilled.

Great feedback - I have the ERA manual for their SC car, and whilst it is a good guide generically, there is a ton of CSX 4000/6000 specific items that we will have to deal with - and the part where there is little (very little) verifiable continuity information ; IE what serials have what components, and how are they serviced.

Dennis mentions that he has 2 wiring diagrams that have been given for late 4000 and they are different . I will pick them up this week and see what we can do to make the determination on what matches my car.

on mechanical differentiation , I have been told the "easy" way to tell a HST from a HI-TECH car is the front spindle upright;

A: HST (.mx car) is with a billet forged upright
B: HI-TECH (.za car) is a cast steel upright

--Can someone verify >?

Update FUSES / RELAYS :

OK, so I hooked up a battery charger tonight and began to look at the various items and do a general plan and QA.

I also drafted a fuse block diagram to share here, keep in mind it is an early REV, and I haven't traced all the circuits yet.

but the mass offenders are there ; Fuel pumps etc. -- keep in mind this is based on CSX4985, and your car could be different. -- as joe isuzu would say -- your millage (or amperage ) may vary.....

--More news as it happens.

--Steve

Thanks a bunch Steve, this will be very helpfull!

I did try to broach the subject of an owner manual/parts manual/electrical prints, some time ago on the owner's site to no avail. Much more interest here. I will gather what I have and post it.

Do they use a painless wiring system?

Bret-- the components on a basic level looks like what painless would use, but anyone has access to that inventory -- the fuse blocks are from Packard electric, the relays are from Tyco, the wire is the good 900 degree gas and oil resistant stuff.

however the wires are not printed on in any way which is a painless thing so i would say it is possible, but not probable.

Kwik-Wire uses the same core items as well so it is anyone guess.

the color coding looks pretty odd to me, it doesn't seem to really follow British, ford , GM color coding just about at all. -- will advise with findings as we see them.

For my tastes there is too much amperage running through the lucas switches-- I think i will be kitting in a relay or two. on CSX4985.

Steve,

I just bought a repro 427 Cobra chassis manual on ebay (SHELBY COBRA 427 CHASSIS INSTRUCTION/OWNERS MANUAL - $24). Haven't seen them for a while, but it looks like the others that have been available. Let me know if you want me to copy it and send it to you for the CSX manual you are working on...

Not sure how useful it will be, but thought it would be fun anyway.
