Shelby battery tray
Kris (or anyone who knows), what kind of job is it to install the behind the seat battery tray in a CSX that's already built? I currently have one battery in the trunk, but want to switch to the correct setup.

What are the recommended batteries for the original tray? I'm having the original style tray fitted to my Kirkham and I'll need to source some batteries.
Thanks,
Paul

Sal the tray has two legs on the one long side. The side with out the legs sits on the back tray of the tub and the legs bolt down to the floor of the tub. I brought mine as far to the passenger side that I could allowing about an inch to remove the battery holddown when neccassary. Kris cuts off the leg closest to the tunnel but I left mine on. Cables run right next to the outside of the leg closest to the passenger door. The ground underneth the car mounts to plate on the frame right there. If you need a picture email me and I'll send one when I get home. marmoramustang@comcast.net

Gil 35 or Gil35 S (sealed) are the perfect size for the shelby tray. Any aircraft supply for the batteries like Sky Geek. Just paint with plasticote and get the rebat decals for a nice look.

What are the specs on the Gil 35 or Gil35 S batts? I used 2 12v acura batts that fit the tray and my s.o. has started hot or cold every time. Thanks Brett.

Thanks Sal, that's where I was trying as well, but had the same luck on the phone. If you do find them from some source, could you let us in on your success? I'd like to have a couple for future batteries.....the day will surely come.

The Motorsports International decals are good repros, but not the right size and shape for those who want exact originality. I am planning to make decals (professional decals, not made on a printer), so stay tuned for the progress and I will be happy to make some extras to sell to fellow members.

how do you plan on handling the wrong-style lift straps on the G-35S?

I'm going to make new ones out of the black nylon rope.
And all the Gil G-35s come with the plastic strap.

Sal,
I too am planning to relocate the battery this winter. I plan to use a custom tray using angle steel to fit the batteries I opt for. I saw the G35 post by rokndad and found them nice however it sounds like they require fluid fill (electrolyte) and they only carry 500cca. I am considering the use of Optima 6V @ 800cca since they are totally sealed and less prone to outgas. I worry the acidic gasses will damage my seats which I want to avoid.
The Rebat label would be really cool. Count me in for one...... The Optimas are round so I plan to fashion an aluminum face/ends and paint it flat black. That should give the appearance of a box/correct shape. The tops will be wrong but a reasonable vintage look should result regardless.

Sal & Morgan,
Where did you get the battery cables? Are they premade or does this require fabrication?

Yes, They had given me some black welding cable to use however I went with #1 gauge cable which I purchased and made up myself.

Guys (yes, I realize this is an old thread but its a timeless topic)
I just bought a battery tray from ebay which was claimed to be from a CSX4000 appliaction. I plan to add the two G35's behind the passenger seat as S/C had.
Question:
The tray is only 15" in length however the width is 5" thus fine. Does SAI suggest the use of the Optima or G35 for their tray? If so, the tray I purchased was misrepresented and not from a 4000 car. Not a huge deal as a 5" extension on angle steel is easy just an extra job I didn't expect.
Is a true CSX4000 tray the full 20" length?
Thanks guys!

It's however long you make it. They don't "come" with trays.

Sal
SAI does not offer a S/C battery tray? Thought it might be an option? I know yours came in the trunk, ever do the switch?
If SAI doesn't sell a tray I will not give the ebay seller rave reviews.
