Default Oil change with a remote oil cooler

Can anyone give advice on how to change the oil in a car with a remote oil cooler? I would assume that what's in the lines and cooler just stays there and what you're really changing is what's in the pan. I took the car up to Miller Motorsports Park for the Kirkham track day and ran the crap out of it. I'm thinking of lavishing some fresh dinosaur juice on it and am wondering if it matters that there's oil trapped in the system.

Most people just drain the oil from the pan (as you suggested) and don't attempt to remove the oil in the lines/cooler.

Following an oil change I would rather have some old oil in the lines rather than air. It's a small percentage of the total fill.

Just changed my redline 5W-30 (all 9 quarts). Had it analyzed by Blackstone, Zinc - 1,283 PPM, Phorphorus - 1060PPM, Molybdenum - 689.

If the lines are plumbed correctly (cooler is after the filter) there should be less than a quart of relatively clean oil in the cooler and associated lines. Should not be a problem.

Jack up the front of the car and then take off the filter. Oil will flow from the hoses and cooler out of the remote body all over your garage floor.

And yes, it too is HOT!

You can remove a hose at the cooler and use a Mighty Vac to suction the oil from the cooler body. Prior to refiring the engine it is a good idea to spin the pump with a drill to vacate and displace any air.
