Default Painting the block clear??

Has anyone ever done this? I would love to see pictures. I just think that the look of raw metal would be awesome.

I am not sure if a clear could handle the heat cycling and expansion. Guys at porstore.com may know. They offer clear coats for metal.

Let me know what they say. My new calipers might be candidates to be guinea pigs for a clear coat experiment.

Default Painting the block clear?

Have you considered the gray cast iron color that is used in machine shops. It is available at Ace Hardware, Home Depot and most automotive paint supply houses as well as many well equipped machine shops. Will hide a mulitude of sins. Nice stuff.
Give it a try, you,ll like it

Thumbs up CLEAR - MORE OR LESS

HELLO "Q",

TRY EASTMEN AUTOMOTIVE. THEY HAVE A HEAT RESISTANT COATING THAT LOOKS JUST LIKE "FRESHLY SCRUBBED" CAST IRON. IVE SEEN IT ON HEADERS AND OTHER COMPONANTS ON SEVERAL CARS BUT HAVE NO PICS. IT REALLY LOOKS GOOD. IT HAS THE SAME TEXTURE AS WELL AS COLOR OF NEW IRON.

HAVE A GREAT DAY,

BLACKJACK

.............. I was wondering about the stuff as well for use on an FE expansion tank. If it takes that heat ( water temps) I think it too would look sharper than the black I see most painting them in. I have seen most use that paint for under hood hinges and assorted bolt ons. Its a nice shade and look for metal finish. Think it will handle water temp?

I have used Cast Blast with great success. It is cast iron grey color. I use for a lot of things now. The local machine shop sprays a light coat on all there machined surfaces once they are done if they do not plan to assemble the parts soon to prevent rust. I did the same on my iron heads for my 351-W after I bead blasted them inside and out. Two years and 10,000 miles later I pulled the valve covers to check my rocker arms and the paint was still there, did the same with the inside of my oil pan with same results. All that hot oil did not wash it away. The only thing this stuff does not like is gasoline. It will just about wash off the paint on first contact. It seems pretty resistent to heat though. I have also used it on front suspension parts such as lower control arms and tie rods and drag links to keep them from rusting and keep them looking good for the show car croud.
