Wheel Bearing (axle) 9" Ford

Going to replace the wheel bearings on a 9" Ford axle.

There is a ring behind the bearing. I suspect they are heated and allowed to shrink into the axle, but I do not know that. I suppose they could be pressed on.

How are they put on?

Press them off? Or cut them off?

generally pressed off, heated on

Press on, after pressing the bearing on. Drill and split to get off.

the reason most will heat the ring for install is that the lengths of the axles means you need a pretty long piece of squarely cut thick walled tube to press it on.

The reason to press it off is because any little nick fron grinder, saw, drill will give you a place for the axle to fail

How far is your press off the ground???

No tubing required. The axle drops right down between the press's cross-bucks, sandwiched by the 2 notched pillow blocks. Press from the flanged end. Done it quite a few times.
