Perserverance and a cheap double flaring tool from the local auto parts store came through. I was hesitant, but looking at the design of the tool, I could tell it would do the job easier. Cost me $15.95 and is from performance plus. I broke one of the adaptors when doing one of the lines, but it came with a lifetime warranty. I used the adaptor from my other flaring tool, which looked the same, and the flares come out almost perfect.
