Mr. Murphy, you are one talented and gutsy guy! I have never pulled that inspection cover off a T56 but have indeed wondered if what you have done is possible. So now we all know :). I think you should be commended for your efforts and for taking the time to share this will all of us. The tremec also shifts much better from the front (actually middle on that box) shifter position, so I'm not surprised by your observation that the T56 feels much more precise when shifted from that position. That's sweet that you can reuse the reverse lockout solenoid as well. From the pics it sure looks like the shift rail runs into a coupling in the front access hole, but you said you had to cut it off? Again, very nice work! What are you putting in front of that 'box?

Now all you need to do is an exchange / modification service so you can do this for everybody else's tranny. Just mail me this handfull of parts, and in three short weeks you can put them back in like this.

Mike,

You must have HUGE Kahoona's to attempt that feat! I am impressed with the ole Aussie know how and your fortitude.

Great job! I think someone needs to send this to Mike Blake with Kit Kar and have him come over and take some notes for one of Kit Kars coming issues. This is good stuff!

Ah, me likes your LS1 :). 99% of tremecs in cobras are running the rear (stock) shifter platform. It sure is refreshing to see innovation and someone who's not afraid to try something new. Thanks again for sharing this.

Don with Minnesota Motor Sports did some kind of conversion on the Tremec in my car to correct the placement.
