Owners of older SPFs/Throttle pedal problem
To owner of older SPFs (mine is #250):
Well, my throttle pedal shaft was slipping again where it attaches to the linkage arm that bolts to the carburetor linkage rod. I removed the piece that looks like a circle attached to a three to four inch long arm. The circle piece goes onto throttle pedal shaft and is then fastened with two allen bolts. A while ago, I had the same problem and Dennis Olthoff told me to put in longer allens after grinding a point on them. I did and it worked for about one season. It started slipping again, I took the allen out (the only one I could get out) to regrind the tip and it looks like the threads
are stripped.
Long story short, now that I have disconnected the steering shaft to get this damn piece off, other than getting new replacement from SPF, anyone know of a great permanent fix to this---other than buying a new SPF ;-) I had thought of drilling a through hole in the shaft and in the round piece, but the shaft diameter is fairly small and I think it would induce a major weakpoint. Open to ideas.
