I was about to move the holes a bit tonight, but think I will try Steve's suggestion first. Really don't want to screw this up....
And, do keep us posted on how your install goes.

Thanks for the suggestion. I understand what you are telling me. The screws do hit the edge of the bevel in the brass nuts unless I slant them at a severe angle. They do screw in though, so I'm not sure that's the problem. Worth a try just if I might avoid moving the holes. That sounds like it will screw up the look of the screws in the counterbores. I just bought a Dremel this weekend and used it extensiively to locate the holes in the doors to mount the door latches. Might as well get more use from it.
I'll let you know how I make out.
