Default Slave Cylinder Adjustment

One of the last items I have to complete for my engine/tranny build is the slave cylinder connection to the clutch fork. I have the bolt and the nylon lock nut to use for adjustment, but do not know how to properly set the adjustment. Should the throwout bearing just barely touch the pressure plate or should there be a gap? If there should be a gap, how is that accomplished? (It appears that the slave cylinder may be lightly spring loaded).

Thanks,
Goose

With slave piston fully retracted, give yourself .100"-.125" freeplay where the TO bearing meets the pressure plate. Once you determine the correct length pushrod, I like to make a one piece jobber by cutting and shaping a bolt. Round the head, etc.

Goose,

There should be about an 1/8" between your t/o and p/p use a return spring connected from your clutch fork forward to your frame (or whatever) to maintain the gap.

Good luck ,KK

What diamiter and brand of master cylinder are you using? My car had a Tilton 7/8" master cyl.It was so marginal .I either had free travel and incomplete release or complete release and no free travel.I went up to a 15/16" dia.master cyl.Now I can get both but pedel is a little stiffer. You always give up something to get something.Travel for leverage. The no free travel will and did take out the throwout bearing which will and did take out the forks in the pressure plate. It is not going to work without both free travel and full release.

Michael,
It all depends on the difference between the master cyl and the slave cyl. Sounds like you needed a smaller diameter slave to get the travel you needed. You can have both freeplay and complete release of the clutch.
