Question FE Starter Bolts

Anyone know what the bolt size is for FE starter bolts? Summit lists ARP Ford Starter Bolts 2 bolt flange and 3 bolt flange....I have a 2 bolt flange CVR starter will these ARP bolts work?

I am running a Hitachi High Torque starter and a McLeod Bellhousing. I use 5/16" S.A.E. course bolts X 1 1/2" Long Bolts. I believe the ARP bolts I bought were orig 2 1/4" long bolts but I cut them down with a die grinder and chassed the threads.

I used the same bolts from my ARP SS Engine Kit when I switched to a CRV starter on my 428. I did add SS lock washers to the bolts just to be sure. I also had to unbolt and rotate the mount on the CRV in order to let the starter clear the headers.

I have the same as Clois, 5/16 x 1.5"

Grade eight with two washers.

Will anyone see the bolts? SS is nice, but I use grade eight or better for critical applications where stress and failure could leave me stranded.

I think you are right about seeing the bolts. However I figured, they came with the kit so why not. SS is very hard and has a very high shear strength. It is comparable to grade 5 or higher. I shouldn't need anything more for the starter. I can't remember at the momment, but I believe my bolts were larger than 5/16 as well.

Edited: Nope, 5/16 is the bolt size.

Trularin,

Just for your info the ARP, SS fastners are a higher strength than Grade 8 bolts. Check out there web site on bolt strength.
I used ARP 12 Point SS on my starter as with the rest of the engine, externally. They all came in a FE bolt kit, if they don't fit ARP will swap out for the correct fit, N/C . Of course you pay the shipping.
