water and oil temp.
The temp here in Atl. Ga. is around 80. I have a fe 428 with a mild cam. When traviling im fine, but when stoped or really slow travel the temp. starts climbing. I have 2 push and one pull fans. Sitting in my driveway i varied the revs for about 15 - 20 minutes. The temp got up to 220 and the oil reached 200. I shut it off, came back out in 5 min. and it almost didnt start.
What kind of temps. are you getting ?
Is this normal ?
What can be done to get it lowered ?
The temp. in summer here gets pretty hot and its only 80 here.
THANKS OLBLUE

My new aluminium motor was fine on the road, but got hot when subjected to stop and go traffic. I kept the puller fan and had a custom radiator shroud fabricated and installed. Then I dumped the ethylene glycol and replaced it with distilled water and Water Wetter. The overheating disappeared, although I do try and avoid heavy traffic when possible anyway. My beast is fortunate to live in a garage in a very temporate climate, so freezing isn't a worry. Life is good. Rich

Btw... The flexalite black magic 150 has a built in shrowd and is exactly the same size as a contemporary's radiator opening. With a few custom stainless brackets it bolts right up to the Contemporary fan support.

With 80 deg. temps, it should not reach 220. I have a 428 with a high lift solid cam & I'm running a 180 deg. thermostat, one puller fan...for now. Anyway, With 80-85 deg. weather, I never run over 205 deg. in city traffic. On the highway at night & around 60 deg.'s in air temp, I even have to turn off my fan or the water temps go down to apx. 170 or so. I plan on buying a automatic switch, sometime I forget to turn it back on. In the heat of the summer of around 95 deg. air temp & in traffic, it can get up to 210 deg's but,.... rarely. Questions, what deg. thermostat are you using, who's radiator, are you using antifreeze, what type of water pump ? Oh, I also use reverse osmosis or distilled water with "water wetter", good stuff.

Do you have an oil cooler as well? Preferrably a big one.
Make sure that the air has to go through the radiator (ie that the gaps around the radiator are closed up, and that the fan has a shroud.
What kind of radiator do you use - one of the big aluminium ones?
I have an aluminium radiator, large oil cooler, run standard 50:50 mix of glycol and water, have one electric push fan, an electric water pump - and I have problems getting my car warm enough!
Actually - writing all of that - what is your water pump like - maybe not circulating enough?
