Someone awhile back said the MSD tech told him it was due to the high voltage and ionization inside the cap. I got it and while waiting for a replacement MSD cap I bought one off the shelf at the parts house for a 55-up Chevy and have had NO problems with the corrosion in 2+ years...plus, it looks better on my motor (black) and is cheaper.
