Default what you got for steering column

Just wondering what everyone has for a steering column? can't justify three hundred dollars for just a self canceling blinker switch. May try to modify a stock unit from the junkyard, and was wondering what most of the kits out there use. Patrick

Get hold of Roger Bollick at rgb@exact.com . He has all the parts for the steering column- the column, shafts, VW turns signal unit, hubs,etc... You'll have to buy the u-joints and steering wheel, but he will give you all the part numbers and suppliers.
I just got my shaft and column from Roger and they are very nice pieces.

I have an IDIDIT unit. I wish I had gotten the one with the high beams in the turn signal.

It is chrome and was easy to install, once I engineered the passage, but you will have to do that with any column.

When I went looking for a simple, inexpensive steering column, here's what I found and used: Speedway

I'm thinking early S-10; Tilt, Cruise, self canceling turn signal, emergency flashers, no column shift and I dont mind the locking column

Tilt/telescoping out of a 1988 Corvette. Made my own adapter for the Moto-Lita.

Works great when the wife wants to drive the car.

Fasterpatric,
I made my steering column using the turn signal head from a '65 CORVAIR. I also used the steering shaft from the 'VAIR and mated it to a CHEVETTE lower half steering shaft. The 'VAIR shaft fitts inside the CHEVETTE lower shaft so I could adjust the length. I then cross drilled the two & bloted them together. I used a 1-1/2" steel tube for the housing.
There's a little more to it than that. E-mail me if you want more info.

ShellValley cobras sell a complete steering column minus the steering wheel, it uses the VW type turning signal, which takes relays, or twin tail lights, they also sell a wooden steering wheel
