Oil filter relocation advice
Hey Ya'll, Been awhile. The dumb sonab#&*@ who installed the oil filter on my B&B used a motorcraft FL-300 and theres no way to get a new filter back on. Anyone know if they make a shorty version of this filter or if I have to go to a filter relocation device. Any suggestions? Help?

The FL300 is the short version of the FL1A. They don't come any shorter than the FL300. John

Jim,
I am not familiar with the B&B mounting and chassis, but on my Cobra when I had it, I put a remote filter on so I could use a full size filter and it was so easy to change and not get oil all over me. I mounted mine in front of the engine on a cross brace of the frame and it hung straight down and I could remove it and replace it in about two minutes. I just never liked messing with that short filter and it was mounted at a sideways angle, so any time you loosened it, the hot oil poured down your arm. And putting a new one on was really difficult plus I couldn't put any oil in it before I put it on.

Get a filter for a Dodge Dakota with a 360. Same mounting, but shorter can.

You can gain about 1/2" (measure carefully) by removing a length of the threads where the filter screws on.

Jim,
Just a stupid question and not meant to start any arguments, but if you managed to get the old filter out, can't you put the new one back in the exact same way if you don't want to go to a remote filter set up?

There is a shorter filter than the FL 300 that is used in MOPAR applications but I believe the threads are different size. The filter media is reduced and there is more pressure drop when forcing the volume of oil through it that a V8 uses in lieu of the OEM application for which the filter was intended. A remote filter IS the best alternative, as you can at the same time allow for a full size filter.

You could always try to locate a 90 degree adapter, that way you don't have to mess with remote filter oil lines (possibility of more leaks). Check out the one below, may be an option...

If you go on the Factory Five forum, there are always a few remote filter set-ups for sale for about $20. I would have different lines made as the ones they give you are pretty cheap.

I turned mine down on my lathe as suggested by Rick. I only needed 1/4".
Then I redesigned it latter on, so I recommend making sure it is in the spot you want it to be in.

Thanks for the tips !! I think I'm gonna use a remote setup. It was really hard getting the old filter out, had to work on it for half an hour
