Engineering class theory says 2 1/2 to 3 teeth for the thickness of the material being cut.

I use a 18 TPI for general use, and a 24 TPI blade for aluminum, as it gives a finer cut.

macloft, does that mean amount of teeth touching per inch for material length of cut? as for eg I cut a Jaguar HT suspension bolt and on a 14tpi sawblade, about a 2" length of teeth disappeared which probably was a bit hard for the blade and to small a diameter for the tpi?

Thanks guys for the advice and going reasonably fine with the teeth maybe better than coarse and keep it at 18-24tpi.
