Oil consumption through heads
I read somewhere in the past that TFS heads were notorious for valve guide wear. Do worn guides and seals typically have a big impact on oil consumption? Leakdown test shows ring integrity is great. I have a separator in the PCV line, so that's covered. I'm running synthetic, but the degree of consumption hasn't really changed since I switched from 50W Valvaline.

Brent,
The last time I changed them, they really didn't look bad. I seem to recall that one or two were a bit gunky. It doesn't smoke noticibly, but it didn't smoke much when my rings were shot on an earlier engine that drank a quart every fifty miles. The wall in my garage stays covered with soot from where I start her up. She doesn't leak. I don't know where else it could be going.

Excessive valve guide wear or bad valve seals can cause an engine to use a little oil...
How much is it using?
A leaky valve seal will show up as a puff of smoke when you first start it up in the morning, or when you lift off the throttle to shift.

Maybe a quart every 150-200 miles.

How old is the engine? Has it always burned oil or did it start slowly and get worse? Or did it happen all of a sudden? A leakdown or compression test will not address or identify worn or broken/failed second or oil rings. Bad guides or seals will defintely cause oil use - you are using a LOT if it goes through a quart that fast....
