That sounds like the Comp Cams xr294. It's a good sounding cam.

Default Update

The short block is complete-Ford Racing is assembling the top end and will run on the dyno, should have the new engine in the car in a couple of weeks.

I did find out from Holbrook Racing (who does FR work) that the block could have been repaired but FR wanted a new block made. This added a few weeks to the process but overall I am pleased with the support I have received from Ford Racing. I know some people have had issues with them and were vocal about it so I felt it is fair to let folks know of my positive experience thus far...they never questioned a thing about my claim and never attempted to skirt responsibility for liability. They allowed me to make changes on the new motor and offered technical/engineering support in order to help me build a set up that would work for my application.

No, I have not fired it up yet nor have I received the engine but I just received the latest update from Marty at FR and thought I would would share what has been a positive experience with everyone.

Enjoy the weekend, and enjoy your ride if you can-I have grown to appreciate my car A LOT more since I have not been able to drive it!!!!

Good for FR, Gary!

I, for one, always tell a business when I am happy with their service. I mention that they always hear when someone is unhappy, but seldom when customers are happy, they seem to be very appreciative of the fact that at least a few of us are aware of that.

Good luck with the install....hopefully there will be plenty of time in the driving season for you to get that Cobra back on the road and enjoy the fall season!

Cheers!

Dugly

Yay! The motor just came off the dyno-570HP @ 5800/582FTLB @ 4800

Im happy, hydro roller so easy breezy-only lost about 30HP from the solid set up and better low end torque.

Ford Racing was extremely cooperative and I am a happy camper still. Now off to the garage

Those are GREAT numbers, especially the torque figure!

Max torque at 1000 RPMs below max HP ensures great street manners, and max HP at that RPM range means great top end pull....best of both worlds .

Cheers to FRP for treating you right!!!!

those are pretty good numbers, aluminum blocks are usually down a little power over the iron blocks i have read.

I know what sells engines.....and it's not the color of the plug wires.

OK so maybe the load factor was a little light and the watergrains were way down that day.

no, you weren't lied to. they are referring to the ability of different dynos to display higher/lower numbers, depending on the dyno calibration. you have a very nice engine.

Gary, nothing wrong with your engine at all. It's a sweet piece and I didn't mean to insinuate anything.

As Vector said, dynos are a crap shoot....and most certainly a necessary evil.

I see, for the record Holbrook Racing in MI built the engine and it was their Dyno machine-so if there is a fudge factor it would be on them. FR is seemingly a "badge" and uses the brand to sell engines etc...fact is that they have tech guys and engineers but don't build anything. They sub the work out to a shop, I spoke directly to Chris Holbrook @ Holbrook Racing and I checked out their company as best I could through references etc...maybe I will throw it on Philly Racing Engines Dyno here where I live just for the hell of it.

You will surely get a different set of numbers-close but slightly different. If vastly different then someone is fudging.
Dynos are best tools for comparison tests of components or tuning adjustments in a build.
Then you can see what % of change the mods or adjustments make.
Unless you're tracking the car and need definitive numbers, save your money on a second dyno run. For a street car, your current dyno numbers are representative that you'll have a strong-running street car.
