Easy... They don't have "the" logo scribbled into the receipt!
For those dollars, I'll take the DART and shout my mates to a round, or three.

Jus' sayin'

+1 on the Referral / Reference from David Kirkham - Denbeste is a Class act and one of the best people in the Classic / Car business.

I have bought and sold things to and From Bill, and have been very happy. I know he was having fits with the casting companies when they first took over shelby engines. I do know he has put serious time and investment behind their products.

if what you were looking at was a purpose cast vintage ALUMINUM engine block from anyone else, this price would be considered low....

just thank your lucky stars you are not trying to cast a old 60 degree V12 or something.

the note / ad was Probably Steve Parini from Denbeste, one of their sales dept.

Now the "all important" question, is it a 5-bolt or 6-bolt block?!

The link in post #6 takes you to a page with that price. But if you choose the 289 block pulldown menu on that page it takes you to $6995.

Still $1500 more than blocks of at least equal quality.

That is true, but I'd go with a Dart and a set of heads for the price.
I can see the market for anyone in "need" of period stuff, however.

"Bill DenBeste". Funny, because if you translate the Norwegian phrase "DenBeste" or "Den Beste" you get "The Best" in English... He has to make great stuff, for sure.

Ridiculous. That block isn't any better than a Dart block, World block, Ford Racing block, etc. A lot of guys will pay for just a name though.

Sorry for the radio silence, we have been doing some reorganizing of the shop and I have been off the computer. The correct price is $6,995.

The blocks are not cast at Buddy Bar, they are cast at Foundry Works. The machine work is all done in the original Shelby Engine Company shop in Gardena.

Thank you Steve and David for your ringing endorsements. We do our best to bring the best product to market we can.

The Shelby 289 Block is a Shelby block ( with Bill Denbeste standing behind it ) --

depends on the collector value of your particular car, and what you want to do.

I have NOT been happy with the Ford Racing stuff of late.

Steve

Yeah, I agree that their crate engines are of questionable quality, but their bare blocks are very nice. I just can't see paying $1000-2000 extra for a block because of the name.

Just use a Dart block at a much cheaper price unless you have plenty of money and want to spend an extra 3000.00 on the name. we have used them for years on drag race, circle track, road race and street cars. Doing one right now for a GT-40. Dart aluminum block, 363C.I. with AFR 205 heads, dry sump, mild solid roller with 8 stack injection. I really neat light little engine that should work great for his road race fun.
Thanks, Keith
